Independent Health VP-Pharmacy in United States

Overview

The Vice President-Pharmacy will develop and execute the pharmacy strategy and vision for the company and ensure alignment with the overall business goals and objectives. The VP will be responsible for continuously assessing the healthcare environment for emerging trends and identifying opportunities to manage the pharmacy spend. The VP will lead a team of professionals and collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to optimize the pharmacy benefit design. This will include formulary management, provider engagement, utilization, quality, and cost while ensuring federal and state regulatory compliance. The Vice President of Pharmacy will also oversee the clinical programs and initiatives related to pharmacy and has oversight of all vendors contracted to provide Rx services.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required. PharmD or MBA degree preferred. Current, unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in New York State required.

  • Ten (10) years of health-related and/or pharmaceutical industry experience with knowledge and expertise in pharmacy benefit design, utilization, quality, and cost management.

  • Five (5) years of management experience required.

  • Experience in successful strategic planning and strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to use data and evidence to drive results.

  • Operational expertise sufficient to understand and successfully manage the clinical and pharmacy operations processes.

  • Experience in negotiating, contracting and claims payment of pharmaceutical services.

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills with emphasis on diplomacy, negotiation and persuasiveness and interaction with multiple levels of management.

Essential Accountabilities

Strategic Planning

  • Develop and implement pharmacy strategy and objectives to ensure alignment with corporate goals while maintaining efficiency and adherence to all regulatory requirements across product lines.

  • Develop and deliver annual business plan for the department.

  • Develop and oversee departmental budget.

  • Utilize industry, competitive and product intelligence for planning and operations.

Formulary Development and Management

  • Establish, update, and maintain formularies for all LOB and products. Oversee the negotiation and management of all pharmaceutical contracts and rebate programs.

  • Collaborate with Pharmacy Benefit Dimensions to establish and maintain a robust retail pharmacy network. Seek opportunities to partner with retail pharmacy to deliver additional member value, including medication adherence and improved chronic disease management.

  • Oversee delegation and reporting to delegated functions for all Independent Health lines of business ensuring compliance with all regulatory and quality requirements.

  • Ensure organizational resource alignment and cross functional support is provided to Independent Health’s affiliate organizations.

Leadership

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and support to the pharmacy team, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and collaboration.

  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, such as providers, members, regulators, vendors, and industry associations.

  • Ensure the right skill sets are in place to drive business results.

  • Support and communicate corporate business decisions and ensure team understanding of decisions and how their roles impact organizational success.

  • Align team goals with the organization’s Mission, Vision, Values and strategic priorities.

Compliance/Risk Management

  • Ensure compliance with the corporate risk management plan and other regulatory requirements. Maintain strict adherence to state and federal compliance policies. Protect confidential business information and data to minimize risk to the organization.

  • Provide oversight and management of vendors to ensure service levels and performance guarantees are met, in accordance with all regulatory compliance requirements.

Population Health and Quality

  • Stay abreast of the latest trends, developments, and innovations in the pharmacy industry, and identify opportunities for improvement and growth.

  • Develop programs and initiatives in support of the organization’s quality goals.

Hiring Compensation Range: $225,000 - $275,000 annually + Incentive

Compensation may vary based on factors including but not limited to skills, education, location and experience.

In addition to base compensation, associates may be eligible for a scorecard incentive, full range of benefits and generous paid time off. The base salary range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.
