VCA Animal Hospitals Veterinary Technician Radioactive Iodine in Concord, New Hampshire

VCA CAVES is seeking an independent, highly motivated certified veterinary technician (CVT or able to become certified by May 2026) to be the backbone of our hyperthyroid cat program. The successful individual would be fear free certified (or willing to become fear free certified) and would be able to remain calm and cool while working with potentially fractious feline patients. A willingness to learn about hyperthyroidism, associated therapies and complications is a must. Attention to detail, exceptional communication skills (with clients, staff and referring veterinarians) and diligent bookkeeping skills are mandatory. Attention to safety protocols and the education of clients and staff will be expected.

Job responsibilities will include:

  1. Review the records for potentials candidates

  2. Contact referring veterinary hospitals for additional information

  3. Answer questions regarding therapy, side effects and complications from clients and the referring community

  4. Train new staff on radiation safety, give annual training regarding radiation safety/monitoring to staff

  5. Schedule intake appointments, schedule follow up appointments

  6. Assist with intake appointments. Enter a history, weight, blood pressure, TPR, current diet and medications into the patient record. Assist in patient physical examination, imaging, sample collection.

  7. Set up a kennel, fill out Care Planner and paper treatment sheets. Make sure all medications are present with enough doses for the patient’s stay.

  8. Assist in administering the radioactive iodine

  9. Record all initial and post administration measurements as outlined in the Radioactive Iodine SOP

  10. Care for each cat daily. Administer medications, clean kennels/boxes and measure radioactivity levels daily until discharge.

  11. Write discharges for each patient

  12. Discharge patients from the hospital, clean kennel

  13. Follow up with clients/patients and gather post-therapy biochemical and physical exam data

Required Schedule: Tuesday - Friday days

Compensation: $20-28/hr based on prior experience
