GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Wyoming Department of Transportation (WYDOT) is seeking Transportation Management Center (TMC) Seasonal Specialists for the GIS/ITS Program located in Cheyenne, Wyoming. These positions provide safety-related information to the traveling public using numerous delivery mechanisms to reduce crashes, closures, and fatalities while improving the efficiency of Wyoming highways.

There are 2 temporary, full-time positions.

Cheyenne is a steadily growing community along the Front Range but still true to the history of the Old West. The city offers nearby mountain biking, skiing, hiking, fishing, hunting, and other outdoor activities. Wyoming is one of only seven states with no state income tax.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function performed at the job level.

  • Provide critical safety information concerning roadways 24 hours per day

  • Requires a great deal of judgment to draw information from various sensors (weather, speed, visibility, traffic volume, webcams, etc.) as well as from reports of plow operators, maintenance foremen, and volunteer citizens

  • Provides technical expertise in the TMC

  • Assign duties to shift workers

  • Maintains organization of the crew during demanding times to ensure optimal efficiency of the TMC

  • Responsible for recommending new/modified policies and procedures as well as ensuring compliance with existing policies and procedures

  • May act as an intermediary between employees and departments and train new employees

  • Conducts preparedness training to analyze points of weakness and areas of strength when responding to various public safety issues

  • Monitors the particular project/program and ensures devices are properly maintained

  • Assists with training new employees in all aspects of the TMC

  • Monitors the health of individual plow operators and maintains a tracking database

Qualifications

PREFERENCES/**AGENCY REQUIREMENTS:

Preference will be given to those with knowledge at the level of a TMC Assistant.

**Applicant must be able to type 35 wpm

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of ITS devices used by WYDOT

  • Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment under stressful situations; ability to adjust readily to changing priorities.

  • Ability to learn new computer programs while having experience with common computer programs such as Microsoft Office.

  • Ability to read, interpret, and communicate technical information.

  • Ability to solve problems, prioritize duties, and complete required tasks effectively.

  • Knowledge of troubleshooting techniques to resolve operational and technical issues.

  • Ability to gather relevant information from a variety of sources and disseminate that information accordingly.

  • Demonstrate effective written and verbal communication skills, including proper English diction, grammar, and spelling.

  • Ability to make decisions independently, as necessary, using the best available information at the time.

  • Ability to be organized, responsible, and timely.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Must have the ability to work calmly and efficiently during high-stress times and with life-threatening situations

  • Must be able to work weekends and holidays

  • This is a shift work position; employees will be required to work rotating shifts and extended shifts at any time of the day or evening at the supervisor's discretion.
