Description

The Parks and Recreation Department Technician I - Landscape Maintenance role is a full-time position with benefits and a preferred hiring range of $19.66 - $21.62 per hour (equivalent to $40,892 - $44,969 annually); however, an exact salary will be dependent upon the selected candidate's qualifications/experience and in compliance with City policy. Applicants who cannot meet the qualifications for the Technician I level may be considered for another level within the department at an annual rate commensurate with applicant qualifications.

Preferred Hiring Ranges:

Technician I: $19.85 - $21.84 per hour (equivalent to $41,288 - $45,427 annually)

As a Technician I in Landscape Maintenance, you'll:

  • Mow grass, edge sidewalks and curbs, weed eat, trim trees and shrubs, spray herbicides, remove leaves and debris, and perform related landscaping duties in the maintenance of park grounds;

  • Plant and maintain planting beds, medians, and parks;

  • Design, participate in, and supervise the planting of flowers and shrubbery beds;

  • Assist with the planting, transplanting, fertilizing, trimming, spraying, and general care of plants and trees in City parks and on City-owned and maintained properties;

  • Assist with horticultural planning and design;

  • Perform carpentry tasks in the repair, remodel, and/or replacement of park structures;

  • Hang, replace, or repair walls, cabinets, doors, windows, floors, ceilings, and more;

  • Paint interior and exterior of park buildings and facilities;

  • Clean park facilities, including sanitizing bathrooms, performing minor plumbing maintenance, mopping, stripping, and waxing floors, dusting furniture, doors, and windows, and emptying trash cans;

  • Maintain playground equipment, tennis courts, and enclosures, including placing mulch around playground equipment and installing new playground equipment;

  • Make inspections to determine the condition of parks and other areas as to their need for maintenance care;

  • Perform proper handling, spill prevention/response, and cleanup procedures for fuels and other pollutants to minimize entry into stormwater system;

  • Perform detailed vehicle/equipment pre-trip inspections and clean personal items/trash from vehicle after use;

  • Assist with snow and ice removal;

  • Performs related tasks as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED and moderate (1-3 years) experience in the performance of general maintenance, groundskeeping, or parks maintenance work. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be used to meet this requirement.

  • At least 18 years of age by hire date.

  • Valid driver's license at time of hire. Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required within 6 months of employment. Paid, on-the-job training will be provided to candidates without a CDL.

  • Trade certifications and coursework in maintenance, horticulture, forestry, or related fields preferred but not required for consideration.
