Make your mark in Global Legal, Compliance and Regulatory

Our Global Legal, Compliance and Regulatory (GLCR) team provides first class advice to colleagues and functions across the organization – ensuring AIG navigates an ever-changing landscape that spans state, federal, and international lines. The team has a multi-dimensional impact, from helping avoid legal exposure to collaborating with other functions to develop cutting-edge new products.

How you will create an impact: ​

  • Manages strategic interests in assigned states through contract lobbyists, direct advocacy, testimony, use of trade groups and coalitions, and relationships with key state policymakers. Lobbies state legislators and regulators.

  • Tracks legislation and regulation.

  • Works with member state legislative teams on legislative and regulatory issues affecting the Insurance and Financial industry.

  • Prepares advocacy materials for member companies, including issue-briefs, talking points, one-pagers, comment letters, and PowerPoint presentations in coordination with other operational staff.

  • Develops and presents state testimony and attends relevant hearings.

  • Represents AIG and the insurance financial services industry at intergovernmental organization meetings.

  • Manages intergovernmental relationship and issues.

  • Develops consensus/positions/strategy among member companies on legislative issues.

  • Works with member company representatives to formulate industry-wide state strategic plans, including industry positioning and advocacy, ally and coalition development, and grassroots activities.

  • Travel Requirements: 30%, domestic.

    What you'll need to succeed:

  • Bachelor’s degree.

  • 5+ years relevant experience in insurance and/or government affairs.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.

  • Strong organizational and time management skills.

  • Ability to self-manage while working remotely with little oversight.

  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to remain flexible in a decision-making process.

  • Ability to develop persuasive policy content.

  • Ability to build consensus among people with diverging views.

  • Strong understanding of state regulatory process and agencies.Ability to understand legislative and regulatory language, how it affects the industry, and how it could/should be edited to support company and industry goals.

  • Firm understanding of the working relationship and policy issues within the Insurance.

  • Ability to assemble and synthesize relevant facts and expert opinion to support policy arguments.

  • Ability to prioritize importance of policy issues to the industry.

  • Position to be based in Sacramento, CA area. Candidates based in Western U.S. Capital cities will be considered.

For positions based in California, the base salary range is $115,000 - 170,000. In addition, the position is eligible for a bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan.
