Indorama Integrated Oxides & Derivatives is currently looking for a dynamic individual to work as a Senior Safety Specialist located in Lake Charles, LA. In this role you will provide safety leadership that encourages a strong safety culture. This job will routinely evaluate workplace practices for potential risks and identify appropriate safeguards that eliminate or reduce the associated hazards.

What will be expected from you?

  • Essential functions require presence in the workplace on a regular basis and an ability to work extra hours if needed.

  • Work collaboratively with team members with different backgrounds and perspectives.

  • Assists other employees in accomplishments of Indorama company goals. Follows instructions and performs other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

  • Participates in Environmental, Health, and safety initiatives as set forth by the company. Participates in and completes company-required training programs.

  • Support the development, implementation, and assessment of the safety systems. Activities include, but are not limited to, the assessment of site safety needs, development of practical, effective solutions to those needs, aiding the implementation of solutions (including training), and assessing the effectiveness of the solutions.

  • Provide guidance related to health and safety issues. Interact and work with the production, maintenance, and engineering departments to provide technical support related to regulatory compliance and the development of practical solutions related to safety, industrial hygiene, training, fire protection emergency management, and recordkeeping.

  • Develop a strong knowledge of safety regulations and industry best practices. Assistance in the assurance that the site complies with applicable regulatory requirements.

  • Develop and maintain site safety policy and procedure and ensure regulatory compliance.

  • Conduct site audits.

  • Lead safety teams in resolving safety concerns.

  • Develop and deliver safety-related training programs. These may include classroom and field training as well as one-to-one training with individuals.

  • Support employee involvement in safety initiatives. Activities may include being a contact for site safety teams and attending safety team meetings as needed.

  • Leads the implementation and management of plant-wide compliance efforts with federal, state/local environmental laws and regulations.

  • Conduct New Hire and Contractor/Vendor Safety Orientation.

  • Lead investigation of accidents and incidents as to the cause and the actions to be taken to prevent recurrence.

  • Participate in the facility Emergency Operating Response Team.

  • Manage and lead emergency preparedness activities to ensure regulatory compliance and department goals and initiatives are achieved, as well as establish the expectations of the behavior of the safety culture within the refinery.

  • Coordinates and delivers training/readiness plan in accordance with corporate standards and regulatory requirements.

  • Provides technical input into emergency response policies, processes, and procedures. Ensures compliance with applicable governmental regulations and company standards.

  • Administers refinery’s emergency response drill program in support of tactical emergency response preparedness.

What are we looking for in the ideal candidate?

  • Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Safety and Health (or related field).

  • 3+ years of specific experience required.

  • Specific experience in a refining and/or chemical manufacturing facility is required.

  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP) and/or Certified Safety Professional (CSP) desired.

  • Must have a level of proficiency with SAP, Internet, Email, and Microsoft Office programs.

  • Fire prevention and protection experience is a plus.

  • Formal root cause analysis and incident investigation.

  • Program review and auditing.

  • Technical writing and reports.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state safety and health regulations, including OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, and NIOSH.

  • Experience with H&S technical and/or procedure writing skills.

  • Proven ability to effectively communicate (both orally and in writing) with and influence all levels of business unit employees, including senior management.

  • Competency in training, facilitating, and presenting to multi-disciplinary groups.

  • Experience with fire prevention and protection systems is strongly desired.
