Assistant Secretary for Housing-Federal Housing Commissioner Senior Underwriter in United States

Summary This position is located in the Dept of Housing and Urban Development, Asst Secretary for Housing-Federal Housing Commissioner. The duty station for this position will be a home-based worksite or other non-HUD owned space anywhere within HUD's Denver, CO Homeownership Center (HOC) Region, which encompasses the locations of New Mexico, Wyoming, Colorado, Iowa, North Dakota, Texas, Montana, Kansas, Arkansas, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Nebraska, Missouri, Utah, and South Dakota. As a Senior Underwriter, you will: Assist the Branch Chief in monitoring the status of goal accomplishment. Advise the Chief of potential problems in attainment of goals and objectives. Research required underwriting procedures and techniques, requiring comprehensive knowledge of Direct Endorsement rules, regulations, and procedures. Serve as an expert-level resource within their Office on matters relating to Underwriting and other Direct Endorsement issues. Often, the incumbent's expertise is reflected in that they may be expected to serve as a trouble-shooter/Team Leader on Underwriting issues arising within the incumbent's Office. Requirements Conditions of Employment The duty station for this position will be a home-based worksite or other non-HUD owned space anywhere within HUD's Denver, CO HOC Region, which encompasses the locations of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Casper, Wyoming, Denver, Colorado, Des Moines, Iowa, Fargo, North Dakota, Fort Worth, Texas, Helena, Montana, Houston, Texas, Kansas City, Kansas, Little Rock, Arkansas, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Minneapolis, Minnesota, New Orleans, Louisiana, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Omaha, Nebraska, Saint Louis, Missouri, Salt Lake City, Utah, San Antonio, Texas, Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Tulsa, Oklahoma. Key Requirements: Must be U.S. Citizen or U.S. National. A one year probationary period may be required. Must successfully complete a background investigation. Public Trust - Background Investigation will be required. Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency. Qualifications You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement. Specialized Experience: For the GS-13, you must have one year (52 full weeks) of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized Experience for this position includes: Reviewing and issuing a conditional commitment of single family property appraisals (1-4 units) as a Direct Endorsement (DE) Underwriter; AND Making decisions as a Direct Endorsement Underwriter (DE) for manually underwritten loans and issuing a firm commitment with the approval or rejection of the credit analysis of a potential borrower's mortgage application; AND Applying underwriting guidelines to make recommendations or decisions on single family mortgage insurance applications, including Federal Housing Administration (FHA); AND Overseeing projects that require coordinating and integrating the work of others and providing progress reports to management or high-level officials; AND Performing trend analysis, reporting findings and writing recommendations to management officials. Experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. Time-in-Grade: In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable: For the GS-13 you must have been at the GS-12 level for 52 weeks. Time After Competitive Appointment: Candidates who are current Federal employees serving on a non-temporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment. This is a 100% telework position, in which you may reside and work at a location within the Region of Denver, Colorado's HOC.
