GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
T he Wyoming Department of Corrections is committed to public safety and high correctional standards, as well as a safe, supportive working environment for our employees.
The Wyoming Women's Center is seeking an HVAC Specialist responsible for maintaining and repairing the HVAC systems, including heating, central air conditioning, refrigeration systems, oil burners, hot-air furnaces, and heating stoves. The Wyoming Women’s Center was established in 1981. It serves as a primary education and treatment center for female inmates and provides programming, vocational, recreational, and educational programs to allow the WDOC to reduce recidivism through cognitive and behavioral intervention.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level.
This position performs all the duties of the HVAC Specialist.
Installs, adjusts, troubleshoots, and maintains electrical, direct digital controls, and electronic/pneumatic/mechanical temperature control devices on HVAC/R systems.
Conducts routine maintenance on HVAC/R equipment.
Provides oversight on HVAC/R projects performed by outside contractors for code compliance, payments, design, and installation.
Works with professional engineers on project design and construction.
Designs and conducts cost estimates for the installation of environmental control units and facility support systems that need new systems or replacement systems.
Manages the procurement and use of ozone-depleting substances.
Conducts efficiency analysis on HVAC systems and proposes energy-saving modifications.
Utilizes infrared imaging for predictive maintenance.
Installs and maintains mechanical equipment including maintaining car wash, hot water high-pressure washers, cafeteria kitchen appliances, precision lab ovens, lab refrigeration units, lab walk-in drying ovens, humidifiers, precision cooling units for server, radio, microwave, and telecom rooms, dispatch, and operations areas critical to agency mission and public safety.
Performs seasonal startup and shutdown of heating and air-conditioning plants and other related equipment.
Works around Hazardous and/or toxic materials.
Qualifications
PREFERENCES:
Preference may be given to those with 3-4 years of progressive work experience in the HVAC field.
KNOWLEDGE:
Knowledge of refrigeration cycle, refrigerants, air conditioning, and related air handling equipment.
Knowledge of acceptable practices, methods, and tools used in installing, maintaining, and repairing HVAC-R Equipment.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree
Experience:
0-1 year of progressive work experience (typically in HVAC) with acquired knowledge at the level of an HVAC Specialist
OR
Education & Experience Substitution:
3-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in HVAC) with acquired knowledge at the level of an HVAC Specialist
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
Agency may require an EPA License.

This position must pass a background check.
Climbing on an occasional to regular basis
Lifting/grasping up to 50 pounds without assistance regularly
