The Role: Device Repair Technician - Northampton

As a STERIS IMS Repair Technician, we will train you to service, restore, and repair surgical devices and instruments that are used in various medical settings. As a Surgical Device Repair Technician, you will be working at our main device repair facility located in Northampton. You will primarily work on the repair, refurbishment, and restoration of Endoscopes.

The Role

Job Summary

  • Salary: flexible depending on previous experience

  • Will be trained/educated in all Hospital instruments uses, functionality, specifications & how to repair.

  • Ensures repair quality meets requirements and specifications of each instrument.

  • Fosters a spirit of empowered work teams and unity among department members to effectively identify and implement continuous improvement measures.

  • Assists in resolving issues, investigating faults, and improving repair processes.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Undertakes training on all models of hospital instrument.

  • Learns essential form & functionality on all instruments and basic repair techniques, with a view to expand into more complex repairs once minor repairs are established.

  • Accurately examine, test and troubleshoot equipment/tools for defects and other issues.

  • Determine the best course of service or repair to renew and get said device / instrument back to working order.

  • Work with equipment and small machinery such as microscopes, grinders, sanders, soldering irons, and sharpeners/polishers.

  • Repair casings, flex tubing, circuitry, electronics, camera lens, and various machined parts.

  • Abides by and ensures health & safety policies and procedures are followed.

  • Ensures conformance to ISO goals and objectives and supports ISO requirements in the assigned repair lab area(s).

  • Supports and actively participates in company’s lean philosophy of continuous improvement.

Generally, successful candidates and employes have the following general skills, experience, and abilities:

  • English language proficiency

  • Minimum 1 year of overall work experience

  • Good hand/eye coordination with the ability to handle small, often very small parts and equipment.

  • Precision use of your hands with a full range of hand manipulation or dexterity.

  • Amazing attention to detail. (You can notice things others usually don't!)

  • Comfortability doing work that is often repetitive in nature. (Doing the same thing/work multiple times.)

  • Able to read, and understand detailed schematics, instructions, and diagrams.

  • Comfortable sitting, standing, and bending frequently or for extended periods of time.

  • Most importantly, you can follow instructions and stick to strict procedures and processes.

  • Desire and willingness to spend time ensuring quality work is carried out.

What will help you stand out as a candidate?

  • Experience in a similar role or environment utilizing power and hand tools/equipment such as grinders, sanders, soldering irons, and polishers.

  • Prior work experience in a role in which you were required to manipulate, bend, adjust and or intricate assembly work.

  • Cellphone/Electronics/Appliance Repair - You're used to working with small parts and pieces and enjoy taking things apart and putting them back together.

  • Nail Technicians - Yes, you read that correctly! Fast, but detailed and intricate work, and you've likely used filling tools and sharpeners!

  • Mechanic work - Car, Machinery, etc. you're curious by nature and enjoying troubleshooting until everything is back in working order.

  • Assemblers - Comfortable with repetition, used to following detailed instructions and diagrams.

  • Others include: Jewelry Repair, Dental Lab Technicians, and Craft Hobbyist
