Job Description

Purpose:

The Project Manager II is responsible for managing project activities for research projects and teams. Performs activities such as: organizing, managing, and coordinating people and tasks to meet objectives and deliverables; communicates project status and needs to PI(s), monitors project budgets; assists in proposal and report writing. Requires a high level of independent problem-solving capability and consistent attention to detail while balancing overall project goals.

Responsibilities:

50% Project Management

  • Assists in project planning, design, and implementation.

  • Develops administrative and technical procedures. Researches, interprets, compiles, and responds to inquiries about rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Monitors compliance with policies and procedures.

  • Develops and implements project timelines.

  • Organizes, manages, coordinates and monitors tasks to meet deadlines.

  • Schedules and maintains project calendar.

  • Monitors project budget.

  • Responds to requests for information from participants (website users, survey participants).

  • Occasional day or overnight travel across the state to meet with stakeholders or attend conferences.

  • Serves as liaison with project sponsors.

  • Communicates project status and staffing needs to PI.

  • Assists with web content management for RAD lab and Space Institute.

35% Project Activities

  • Performs research special projects and provides general support of operational goals.

  • Plans and supports outreach events statewide promoting research opportunities with Texas schools, focus group management, and works with sponsors including set-up, take down, and management of catering and technology equipment.

  • Responsible for compliance for projects (applications, amendments, responses, reviews).

  • Performs basic to intermediate research for projects to include literature reviews, internet research or phone inquiries, preparing presentations, or providing additional support for project activities.

  • Collaborates with other research teams to support project needs throughout the department.

  • Coordinates calendars, meetings, and other activities. Provides technical guidance and advice on administrative matters to agency executives.

  • Responds to inquiries, resolving problems or inquiries.

15% Proposal Development and Reporting

  • Prepares or assists in writing grant proposals to funding agencies and performs funding searches in general support of operational goals.

  • Prepares or assists in writing reports or papers for publication.

  • Creates summary graphics for reports and presentations.

  • Writes, edits, and formats reports.

  • Prepares and presents information to stakeholders.

What we need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Five years of related experience.

What is helpful:

  • Significant experience in project management.

  • Strong knowledge of engineering research methods, data m anagement/collection, analysis, grant writing, technical writing or report writing, and/or working with external sponsors.

  • Experience managing or supervising staff.

  • Knowledge of project management.

  • Ability to meet deadlines.
