Who we are

Undergraduate Strategic Partnerships collaborates with the College Advising Corps (CAC) to ensure every student has an opportunity to enter and complete college. We serve more than 50 high schools spread across the state in Dallas/Fort Worth, San Antonio, Houston, Brazos Valley, and Rio Grande Valley regional areas. In an effort to increase the number of low-income, underrepresented, and first-generation students pursuing higher education, the Texas A&M program hires, trains, and places exceptional recent college graduates from all fields of study to serve as full time, near-peer college advisers in underserved high schools.

What we want 

Undergraduate Strategic Partnerships (UGSP) is seeking an Advise TX - Assistant Program Director who will be charged with leading Advise TX program operations Dallas-Fort Worth Region. We are looking for an energetic individual who will be responsible for managing the strategy, partnership coordination, and execution of the region's program operations. This position additionally coordinates annual training and staff recruitment strategy for the DFW program region. The successful candidate will demonstrate a distinct interest in designing, developing, and assessing the effectiveness of programs.

Salary: $4,180.00 - $4,584.00 monthly

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in applicable field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Four years of program administration experience.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Ability to relate well with an underserved student population.

  • Ability to solve complex problems.

  • Ability to use word processing programs and spreadsheets.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and communication skills.

  • Independent decision making and problem-solving skills with proven leadership ability.

  • Experience working with Admissions and/or Financial Aid.

  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree

  • A combination of seven years of experience in program administration or coordination with grant writing experience.

  • Experience supervising off-site employees and working with high school teachers and staff.

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.

  • Valid Class “C” Driver’s License.

  • Experience working with high schools and school districts in the Dallas-Fort Worth area/s in a college access role.

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.

    Responsibilities 

Supervision

  • Identifies, recruits, hires, trains, and evaluates advisers.

  • Assists in the planning and implementation of on-campus summer-training and site-based training throughout the year.

  • Assists each adviser in the development of site-specific plans in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

  • Visits advisers in their high schools and service areas to troubleshoot concerns and offer advice and counsel.

  • Assesses advisers’ effectiveness and encourage professional development.

  • Provides effective supervision, coaching, and leadership for advisers and program staff.

  • Communicates regularly with advisers, visits advisers in their service communities, and implements additional methods for assuring advisers remain engaged with students and communities they serve and work towards the goals of the Texas College Advising Corps.

  • Works with the Texas College Advising Corps and Human Resources staff to ensure advisers are hired according to TCAC guidelines and University policy.

Partnerships

  • Manages relationships with partner high schools.

  • Establishes, nurtures, and sustains relationships, communication, and collaboration between and among the host institution, Advising Corps staff, and partner high schools.

  • Oversees Memoranda of Understanding/Agreement with partner high schools in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Works with school partners’ site supervisors and administrators to resolve issues that arise.

  • Initiates regular contact with high school guidance counselors and administrators in support of the Advising Corps program.

  • Routinely seeks feedback from guidance counselors regarding program activities. Initiates and facilitates meetings to provide regular opportunities for high school guidance counselors and administrators to discuss and review the program. Consults regularly with principals, counselors, and teachers. Communicates frequently and effectively with site supervisor at each school. Anticipates concerns whenever possible and addresses them appropriately when they arise.

Program Management

  • Responsible for overall operation of the College Advising Corps program.

  • Provides effective day-to-day management and administration for the Advising Corps program in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

  • Assists program assistant and/or other program staff.

  • Proactively identifies and implements methods for publicizing and promoting the activities of the College Advising Corps.

Other Communications

  • Work with department stakeholders to create engaging artwork, photography, and other multimedia components to enhance the strategic goals of the department.

  • Design, print, and produce promotional materials in a variety of mediums including traditional print, electronic, social, and multimedia for a variety of internal and external audiences. Manage Advise TX Social Media Channels.

  • Work with vendors to deliver high-quality, cost-effective branding solutions across multiple mediums.

  • Recommend actions related to partner schools continuation from year to year. Provide ongoing updates about the Advising Corps program to the campus community and administration and facilitate ongoing communication and collaboration with and between University staff members involved in the program (e.g., development office, sponsored programs, data analyst).

  • Attend conferences related to the Advising Corps and other relevant topics.

Evaluation, Assessment, & Development

  • Oversees implementation of the selected data collection platform of the Texas College Advising Corps.

  • Ensures advisers track their service using this online case management system and generate reports on adviser service activities.

  • Works closely with program data analyst and data contacts in partner high schools as necessary.

  • Evaluates performance of program through visits to high schools on a regular basis and development and oversight of a formal review process with high schools.

  • Regularly evaluates program efforts against objectives to assess effectiveness; makes recommendations for enhancements as appropriate.

  • Evaluates the performance of advisers to assure program goals are being met.

  • Works with Director and staff from the development office to identify and implement activities to generate financial support for the Advising Corps program (e.g., identify and pursue suitable grant opportunities, coordinate inquiries from grant agencies).

  • Represents the program to media, community organizations and other interested parties in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

Liaison

  • Serves as primary liaison between chapter institution and the Texas College Advising Corps host program.

  • Works with Associate Director of the Texas College Advising Corps to ensure adherence to sub award guidelines and progress toward strategic growth.

  • Participates in regular Program Director calls, meetings, and trainings with the Texas College Advising Corps.

  • Provides information and reports to TCAC as requested.

  • Works with TCAC to coordinate and disseminate marketing materials for the program (e.g., press releases, publications, web page, grant reports).

Budgets and Grants

  • Oversees Advising Corps program budget.

  • Works with Director to track and manage grant funds to assure their proper use, maintain records, and prepare financial reports as necessary.

  • Works collegially with the administrators associated with Advising Corps funders and provide reports regarding Advising Corps outcomes, progress and activities as requested.
