Job Description

The purpose of this job is to provide technical process engineering support at the new greenfield IKO Fiberglass Mat Plant in Chester, South Carolina, which is targeted to start up Q1-Q2 of 2025. The primary initial function of the role is to lead the process engineering operational readiness plan, ensuring that the site is prepared for a successful start-up. After start-up this role will provide technical support to optimize cost, quality, productivity, and reliability. This would include leading teams of hourly employees and staff in continuous improvement activities to achieve and sustain results in the areas of waste elimination and variation reduction. The candidate should have practical experience in continuous improvement.

WHEN YOU JOIN US YOU WILL BE;

  • Defining and resolving process problems through individual and team-based continuous improvement activities and structured problem-solving methods.

  • Developing standard work and ensuring operators and supervisors are engaged and trained in running plant processes consistently.

  • Develops layered process audits, control and reaction procedures, and standard work for all processes.

  • Commissioning new production equipment and processes, monitoring modifications, upgrades, and troubleshooting existing processes.

  • Working closely with the Senior Manufacturing Engineer and Production Manager to monitor and improve the efficiency, output, and safety of the plant.

  • Making observations and taking measurements directly, as well as collecting and interpreting data from the other technical and operating staff involved, to develop and implement process improvement.

  • Measure, test and evaluate product characteristics.

  • Manage process changes from conception to successful manufactured product.

  • Provides technical leadership for environmental monitoring and ongoing performance of plant environmental controls and processes.

  • Working closely with the operators and staff who oversee quality control of raw materials, finished products, plant maintenance, product specifications and production schedules.

OUR IDEAL CANDIDATE;

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.

  • Ideal candidates will have 3-5 years of hands-on process engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a wet formed fiberglass mat process or equivalent.

  • Other backgrounds or demonstrated experiences that would also indicate a possible good candidate fit include quality manager, quality engineer, significant technical experience in identical processes, paper making or other coating processes.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

  • Strong detailed oriented technical writing skills.

  • Lean six sigma skills and experience preferred.

  • Familiarity with SPC (statistical process control) would be helpful.

  • Advanced analytical skills, and creativity in solving problems/troubleshooting.

  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple short and long-term projects.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written, verbal and presentation), with the ability to effectively work with others in a team environment.
