Summary

​​The Planner of Category Inventory will oversee the alignment of SKU level supply and demand through SIOP and S&OE processes. Collaborating with Merchandise and D2C Planning, Sales Operations, Order Management and Supply Planning teams, this role ensures optimal demand and inventory management across time and segments to enhance service levels and profitability. Utilizing analytical insights and proactive approaches, the role will assess pre-season and in-season demand to influence future supply signals, minimizing both surplus and shortfalls to inventory. Responsible for overseeing seasonal liability and coordinating with cross functional teams to develop action plans for driving sales prior to end of season. Additionally, this position will monitor and adjust inventory balance between segments, initiating transfers as needed to support demand. Fill rate analysis and order visibility oversight will be key, ensuring dynamic signals are addressed with actions plans aimed at achieving mutually beneficial financial outcomes for Customer and Carhartt. ​

Responsibilities

  • Establish cross-functional relationships to promote best practices and process adherence, fosters collaboration and teamwork. 

  • Partner with Supply Planning to identify and manage the products with risk and surplus and work to right size the production plan to improve overall inventory position.

  • Lead weekly S&OE discussions on seasonal risk and surplus while developing actions plans and timelines holding cross functional teams accountable.

  • Oversight of monthly PO issuance in partnership with Supply Planning to ensure receipt flows support demand signals with risks minimized.

  • Track the end of season liability position to ensure that all efforts are made to reduce receipt flows to limit liability positions through proactive efforts across time.

  • Development of transparent and frequent communication to cross functional partners in Merchandising, Merchandise and D2C Planning, Sales Operations etc. on products with demand risk and surplus to ensure full teams are fully informed on issues.

  • Ability to pivot and monitor KPIs from pre-season to in-season once the account order booking window opens to understand how order visibility is deviating from demand signals and evolve strategies to close gaps and elevate risks through clear communication as appropriate.

  • Track inventory across segments identifying opportunities for transfers between segments to ensure inventory is properly balanced to align with demand signals across time.

  • Lead change to enhance and develop more efficient/effective best practices and processes that support our targets/goals. 

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree Preferred in Related Field

  • Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of degree

Required Skills and Experience

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a planning and/or inventory management field 

  • High level of analytical thinking with strong aptitude with retail math, forecasting methodology and inventory management

  • Self-motivated, passionate and enthusiastic individual ready to bring energy and excitement to lead their business

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with the proven ability to communicate with all levels including management and business unit partners 

  • Outstanding organizational skills with a natural curiosity and interest in problem solving 

  • Flexible team player who thrives in environments requiring ability to effectively prioritize and delegate workload, juggling multiple concurrent projects and deliverables 

  • Strong sense of urgency to change, adapt, and push processes forward 

  • Advanced computer skills (MS Office and Planning tools) are needed

  • Remote location: Associate will have no regular requirement to be on-site. Travel on-site is limited to special events.
