Engineer in Charge – Field Operations – NewsNation

Who we are: NewsNation is the fastest growing cable news network currently reaching 75 million television households across the United States. The network is owned and operated by Nexstar Media Group (NXST). NewsNation is currently searching for a staff Engineer in Charge – Field Operations for our nationally broadcasted shows . This position will be based in Atlanta.

Responsibilities:

  • The successful candidate must be s killed in ENG/SNG engineering operations and have a solid understanding of live broadcast/production elements, specifically news production, and be able to operate live broadcast equipment in a mobile environment.

  • Drive and operate ENG satellite trucks for live productions. Establish signal acquisition and transmission paths, PL communications to NewsNation network facilities, including Chicago, NY, and Washington DC. Assist any guests with mics and IFB earpieces as needed.

  • Must know how to deliver high quality broadcasts, have a passion for journalism and thrive in the technical news production environment.

  • May be asked to coordinate and conduct training on NewsNation ENG/SNG assets and create training documentation on truck operation.

  • May be asked to cross-train on other mobile transmission solutions (other satellite trucks or mobile studio vans) and utilize existing Nexstar network assets to expand NewsNation and Nexstar network live capabilities.

  • Liaise between field teams and engineering staff to ensure maintenance and repairs of field equipment is performed in a timely manner.

  • Must be able to communicate and document effectively and concisely to the rest of the team.

  • All day parts (mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays) may be a part of the schedule with overtime as situations and breaking news demand.

  • Keep up to date on new trends and technologies in live production and news acquisition methods.

Qualifications:

  • Five plus (5+) years’ experience in professional, television broadcast environment as an EIC for live productions and breaking news events.

  • Be detail-oriented and be able to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

  • Candidate should be a problem solver and quick thinker to resolve existing issues and to work around problems that arise during live news.

  • Must work well in a collaborative team environment.

  • Working knowledge of common business software applications, particularly Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications or related field preferred.
