Class Summary

The HVAC team is responsible for operations, troubleshooting and repair of complex commercial equipment, such as chillers, boilers, VRF, water source heat pumps, and cooling towers. This position may be filled as a HVAC Controls Tech or a HVAC Controls Tech Senior. Below is the detailed information for each level.

Job Description

The HVAC Controls Tech is responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of HVAC systems and equipment while the HVAC Controls Tech Senior is responsible for like duties of moderate to complex HVAC systems and equipment.

HVAC Controls Tech

Essential Duties

  • Performs the installation, maintenance, tests, and repairs of building automation systems

  • Investigates malfunctioning HVAC equipment and systems to determine the cause of the problem and to determine the proper repair solutions

  • Designs, fabricates, and installs customized HVAC systems

  • Responds to emergency calls for various types of HVAC failures

  • Prepares records and reports

  • Assesses and replenishing inventory on HVAC equipment and materials

Grade & Salary

The grade for this position is B25(3). Salary is commensurate with years of experience and trades license.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Four (4) years of progressively responsible commercial experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above

  • Georgia State Conditioned Air Contractor Class I License (restricted)

    Other Job Requirements/Information

  • Valid driver's license

  • This job is a safety sensitive position that will require a pre-employment drug test, physical, and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing.

  • This job may require on-call rotation and emergency after hours, weekends, and/or holidays.

HVAC Controls Tech Senior

Essential Duties

  • May serve as a lead to staff to include assigning and monitoring work; and providing direction

  • Trains new employees

  • Performs preventive maintenance and repairs to all levels of HVAC systems including Building Automation Control Systems and overseeing service contractors

  • Investigates malfunctioning HVAC equipment and systems to determine the cause of the problem, proper repair solutions, and implements solutions including time and cost estimates

  • Designs, fabricates, and installs customized HVAC systems

  • Researches and provides recommendations on new technologies and equipment

  • Responds to emergency calls for various types of HVAC failures

  • Prepares records and reports

  • Assesses and replenishing inventory on HVAC equipment and materials

  • Provides input for annual budget preparation

Grade & Salary

The grade for this position is C41(3). Salary is commensurate with years of experience and trades license.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED

  • Six (6) years of progressively responsible commercial experience

  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above

  • Georgia State Conditioned Air Contractor Class II License (unrestricted)

Department of Support Services

The Support Services team manages the design, construction, and maintenance of facilities; manages the acquisition and disposal of real property and right-of-way; supports the delivery of essential services through the purchase and maintenance of the County's fleet and the purchase and dispensing of fuel; manages residential solid waste contracts; manages cafeteria and food service contracts; and provides records management services, mail services, housekeeping services, and grounds services to support County operations.
