GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Wyoming State Hospital is seeking to fill positions of Senior Nurse. The candidate will oversee the direction of nursing staff and patient care during their shift.

The city of Evanston is a small and friendly Rocky Mountain community that is a 45-minute drive from the world-famous ski slopes of Park City, Utah. Concerts, shopping, dining, professional sporting events, and an international airport 60 minutes away in Salt Lake City. Evanston's area is excellent for recreational activities such as hiking, camping, fishing, biking, snowmobiling, and cross-country skiing. Wyoming has no state income tax.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.

  • Assists with the development of policy and procedures for implementing specific programs; orients new staff to the programs, policies, and procedures.

  • Contributes to the development of relevant nursing protocols to provide clinical care and teaching materials for groups and individuals.

  • Provides guidance and oversight regarding nursing functions as programs are developed and implemented.

  • Mentors advise and guide staff nurses toward program outcomes.

  • Serves as a resource for personnel in developing and delivering programs/services including clinical nursing care, contact investigation, community outreach initiatives, and health education/health promotion messages.

  • Takes responsibility for assigned special projects from initiation through project completion. Suggests budgets for assigned projects and monitors expenditures once approved.

  • Contributes to Quality Assurance by collecting and compiling department CQI data.

  • Performs nursing assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of ill and disabled persons.

  • Arranges for and conducts nursing clinics and classes.

  • Reviews fiscal transactions/documentation for services, reimbursement, patient fees, and donations.

Qualifications

PREFERENCES:

Preference will be given to candidates with 4-6 years of work experience as a Registered Nurse, including supervision duties

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of principles of nursing and management processes.

  • Knowledge of the medical diagnosis and treatment of patient care using nursing diagnosis.

  • Knowledge of organization, planning, and team building.

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of public health nursing.

  • Knowledge of human service management to include supervisory techniques, methods, and standards.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor's Degree (typically in Nursing)

Experience:

1-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Nursing) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Nurse

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Wyoming

OR

Education & Experience Substitution:

4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in Nursing) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Nurse

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Wyoming

Necessary Special Requirements

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Must be able to:

  • Lift/transfer patients to different positions.

  • Lift medical/patient equipment of varying sizes and weights up to about 50 lbs.

  • Restrain clients for treatments, climb stairs to patient homes, and drive long distances.

  • Travel throughout the state and to national conferences if requested.

  • Work evenings, nights, and /or weekends when the situation requires it.

NOTES:

  • FLSA: Non-exempt

  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing will be conducted on safety-sensitive positions. Drug testing will be completed on any position if reasonable suspicion exists.

  • A background check, including the taking of fingerprints, will be completed through the Wyoming Department of Criminal Investigation, the Department of Family Services, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation for every successful applicant.

  • A current Influenza Vaccination is required.

  • Employees of this facility will be expected to follow all rules and requirements established by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services regarding COVID-19.

  • One year of service in the position must be completed. Failure to complete this requirement will require reimbursement of the bonus with the funds deducted from the final pay.

  • Internal candidates will be required to remain in the position for a minimum of (1) year from the promotion date.

  • Employees will only be eligible for (1) hiring bonus in a 12-month period.
