GIS Technician

POWER Engineers is seeking a GIS Technician to work in our Environmental Resource Analysis and Mapping (RAM) Pacific and Rocky Mountain Mapping Department, based on-site in our Austin South, Texas office location.

Roles and Responsibilities

The incumbent will provide mapping and analysis support to our core business in environmental siting, routing, and permitting of energy facilities in the Western US. In this role, you will be instrumental in supporting various projects, including:

  • GIS Database Development and Data Processing

  • GIS Mapping and Cartographic Design

  • GIS Analysis and Reporting

  • GIS Quality Control and Quality Assurance

  • ArcGIS Web Mapping and ArcGIS Field Maps Development

Typical project types may include:

  • Land Use Planning

  • Environmental Permitting

  • Electric and Gas Transmission

  • Transportation (road and air-based)

  • Urban Infrastructure

  • Local Government

Applicants should be self-starters with the desire and ability to take the lead on a task and possess the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in GIS; Geography; Landscape Architecture; Planning; Environmental Resource Management; or related field with a specialization in GIS

  • One (1) to three (3) years of experience with Esri ArcGIS Pro software

  • Presentation-quality cartographic skills (portfolio examples are welcome)

  • Experience providing GIS analysis for State and/or Federal environmental projects

  • Experience with ArcGIS Portal and Enterprise web map publishing

  • Experience with Esri Field Maps

  • Excellent oral and written communication with the ability to bridge the gap between technical and non-technical staff/management

  • Strong general computer skills (troubleshooting/problem-solving)

  • Proficiency in Windows OS and Microsoft software products
