Vee Technologies Facility Inpatient Medical Coder in United States

Vee Healthtek is one of the fastest growing companies in America offering outsourced services to Fortune 500 and mid-sized companies. We are growing and need to hire five Inpatient medical coders.

This position is responsible for reviewing documentation for I npatient Coding, abstracts clinical information from a variety of medical records, charts and documents and assigns appropriate ICD-10 - CM/PCS and CPT codes to patient records according to established procedures. Works with coding databases and confirms DRG assignments. Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field. Will require attendance at department training and meetings via conference call and WebEx.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Coding/Abstracting

  • Quality/Performance

  • Corresponds with other areas of the HIM department to ensure the necessary components are available for accurate coding and the highest quality of the patient's medical record.

  • Maintains an accuracy rate of not less than 95% based on internal and/or external review and a productivity standard per 8.0-hour day.

  • Attends meetings as required and strives to improve the quality of meetings by taking an active role in meeting topics. Participates in educational programs, in-services, and training sessions.

  • Determines the appropriate sequencing of diseases, diagnoses, and surgeries. The Coder accurately assigns appropriate codes to inpatient records using ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS and CPT-4 guidelines.

  • Query the physicians for correct assignment of MS/APR DRGs.

    Essential Responsibilities:

  • Communicates with department manager or client on coding, compliance, and documentation issues.

  • Seeks clarification from healthcare providers or other designated resources to ensure accurate and complete coding.

  • Enhances coding knowledge and skills with continuing education activities and by reviewing pertinent literature.

  • Within the scope of the job, requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.

  • Follows guidelines for each project as set by the client.

    Required Skills:

  • RHIT/RHIA plus 3 years of acute care coding experience

                                      (Or)

  • 5 years acute care coding experience with CCS or CIC certification.

    Travel Requirements/%Time:     Home-based office that is private, without distractions
