The Role

The ORC (offsite re-processing center) Facilities Supervisor is a working supervisor role that will lead our Facilities team and assure all assets and daily operations in the facility are OSHA compliant, well maintained, and running efficiently at design-rated capacity. The successful candidate must be willing to participate on all shifts when needed and repair equipment as is necessary to support the Facilities team. The ORC Facilities Supervisor directs day-to-day maintenance operations in a 24 hour, 5 1/2-day (Mon – Sat) healthcare, ORC (offsite re-processing center) and clean-room environment. The ORC Facilities Supervisor guides local maintenance technicians, coordinates all projects with Facilities and Operations teams, and directs all shift maintenance personnel activities. This individual ensures all maintenance activities are completed, and maximum operational potential is realized for the entire operation. As part of a team, this role ensures proper maintenance and repair of MEP equipment including but not limited to, high pressure steam boilers, HVAC, RODI water systems, compressed air, and water heaters. This role operates in a fast-paced, high production work environment while prioritizing multiple mechanical/electrical/plumbing and administrative tasks. The Facility Supervisor provides training to technicians on technical and administrative skills, and is the primary escalation point for the timely resolution of issues and to ensure planned work is completed within established timelines for Facilities Maintenance and Facilities Management requirements.

This position requires extensive knowledge in building systems, coupled with strong analytical and communication skills. Ensures compliance with established STERIS policies and procedures and aids in the development of new processes. May include service or repair work on plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, motors, pumps, electrical systems, lighting, flooring, window coverings, walls, PLC, and other systems. Vast experience maintaining high-pressure steam boilers, HVAC systems, RODI units, and Electrical systems desired.

Hours: Monday - Friday 6am- 3pm (or 7 am to 4 pm), with occasional Saturday hours as needed.

What You Will Do

  • Ensure compliance with 29 CFR 1910 OSHA General Industrial Safety Standards and 29 CFR 1926 Construction Safety Standards for facilities services staff and supervised contracted service personnel.

  • Supervise, train, evaluate, and maintain records of maintenance team members on all technical disciplines needed to be successful as a technician at the ORC.

  • Oversee/perform the preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance program for STERIS Offsite Reprocessing Center, including administrative tasks necessary to meet quality and regulatory requirements.

  • Conduct daily running inspections of all facility areas and equipment to ensure the safety of our people, equipment, and facility.

  • Troubleshoot, analyze, evaluate, and determine the cause of equipment (washers, sterilizers. ultrasonic & drying cabinets) failures within the ORC. Repair or coordinate repairs with a qualified contractor without guidance. Schedule outages and repair windows with Operations leadership coordination.

  • Develop, implement, and review Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for compliance with STERIS guidelines. Provide input to creating Standard Operating Procedures required to ensure consistency and conformance with all regulations and industry best practices. Maintains on-site operating and training manuals for Facilities department.

  • Seek and implement continuous improvement opportunities utilizing lean methodologies.

    Manage performance process for the facility staff, appraise employee performance, and offer recommendations for wage review and/or change in employee status.

What You Will Also Do

  • Coordinate, schedule, prioritize, and assign maintenance team and service contractor work schedule.

  • Communicate with and manage outside agencies e.g., contractors, equipment suppliers, and technical consultants.

  • Be available during production, be willing, and able to perform scheduled repairs and maintenance during production downtime, which is often on the weekends.

  • Requisition parts, tools, supplies, and services required for Facility operations and report monthly spending to plan to Manager.

  • 5S (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain) Facilities department-related space and implements programs and systems required to ensure plant cleanliness.

  • Maintain OSHA, city, county, state, and federal regulations of all systems in the facility.

  • Assists with planning, implementing, and overseeing plant improvement projects.

  • Travel to other STERIS locations as necessary to support operations or attend training.

  • Complete all other functions and tasks as may be assigned by Manager.

What You Will Need to Be Successful

  • High School Diploma / GED and 13 years of facilities maintenance or equivalent experience in the MEP trades (mechanical, electrical, plumbing).

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferred, plus 5 years of experience with facilities maintenance or equivalent experience in the MEP trades.

  • Ability to effectively communicate with and manage outside agencies e.g., contractors, equipment suppliers, and technical consultants.

  • Must be available during production and be able to perform scheduled repairs and maintenance during production downtime, which is often on the weekends.

  • Experience implementing 5S (Sort, Set in Order, Shine, Standardize, and Sustain) programs to ensure plant cleanliness.

  • Experience maintaining OSHA, city, county, state, and federal regulations.

  • Ability to assist with planning, implementing, and overseeing plant improvement projects.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft suite to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

  • Ability to travel up to 5% travel to other STERIS locations as necessary to support operations or attend training.

Preferred Experience

  • 2 + years’ experience working in a healthcare/cleanroom or manufacturing environment.

  • 1+ years’ experience working with eMaint or other relevant CMMS software application

  • Vast experience maintaining high-pressure steam boilers, HVAC systems, RO/DI units, and Electrical systems desired.
