As a(n) ESG Governance Specialist you will have the opportunity to develop and execute an ESG data reporting and controls program. Your contributions will have a direct impact on the business by being responsible for ESG data governance, accuracy, collection, reporting, and analysis to ensure timely and accurate ESG regulatory and voluntary reporting. This role will coordinate with members of diverse teams (sustainability, human resources, risk management, legal, internal audit, etc.) to deliver high-quality ESG information, compliance with regulatory requirements, and support voluntary reporting, such as the annual L&P Sustainability Report. This position reports to the Sustainability Director. This is a remote position.

So, what will you be doing as a(n) ESG Governance Specialist?

  • Monitor the ESG-related regulatory landscape, maintain regulation tracking tool, and understand requirements, with shared responsibility and support from our internal legal department.

  • Develop reporting policies and procedures and create standardized and controlled processes to support compliance with regulatory requirements and voluntary initiatives we choose to pursue.

  • Support regulatory filing processes, with shared responsibility and support from our internal legal department, ensuring timely, accurate, and complete documentation and data inputs.

  • Perform risk assessments for the design of internal controls and governance.

  • Document and identify improvement opportunities around the collection of disparate metric sources.

  • Provide guidance to subject matter expert teams on appropriate internal control documentation.

  • Support the organization’s readiness for attestation, serve as a central point of contact to coordinate relevant internal audits, and support external, third-party audits by providing requested information and timely response.

  • Ownership and administration of Workiva and/or other applications to collect, process, and organize data that supports the auditability of data.

  • Train key employee groups on reporting processes, controls, need, value of reporting, and on systems/tools used to gather data.

  • Lead, participate, or assist with various projects as needed.

  • Provide regular status reporting to direct manager and assist with the development of communications to executive management.

    To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Business, Accounting, or a related field

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience

  • Experience in accounting/finance, compliance and/or regulatory reporting

  • Understands internal controls and has experience in designing and executing controls

  • Familiarity or experience with COSO framework of controls

  • Ability to coordinate with various functional areas of the business

  • Data management and analytics skills including collecting, organizing, and analyzing complex and/or technical data

  • Project management and project tracking skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Familiarity with the landscape of ESG-related voluntary and regulatory disclosure frameworks globally (CSRD, ISSB, SASB, TCFD, CDP, etc.)

  • Ability to deliver high-quality work within a fast-paced environment where priorities may rapidly shift on a given day

  • Intermediate to advanced Microsoft Office Excel skills

    Things we consider a plus:

  • Greenhouse gas emissions accounting experience

  • Using applications to collect, process, and organize data that supports the auditability of data

  • Internal audit experience and working to support external audits
