DESCRIPTION
We are looking for a talented DBU – Data Architect to join our team remotely, specializing in Systems/Information Technology for our Cummins’ business in Indianapolis, IN.
In this role, you will make an impact in the following ways:
Automating Data Ingestion and Transformation: By designing and automating the deployment of distributed systems, you’ll streamline the process of ingesting and transforming data from various sources, ensuring efficiency and reliability.
Ensuring Data Quality and Integrity: Implementing frameworks to continuously monitor and troubleshoot data quality and integrity issues will help maintain high standards and trust in the data.
Implementing Data Governance: Establishing processes for managing metadata, access, and data retention will ensure compliance and proper data management for both internal and external users.
Building Reliable Data Pipelines: Designing and guiding the construction of scalable, efficient, and quality data pipelines with robust monitoring and alert mechanisms will support seamless data integration and processing.
Optimizing Database Performance: Creating physical data models and optimizing database performance through efficient indexing and table relationships will enhance data retrieval and storage efficiency.
Developing Large-Scale Data Solutions: Designing, developing, and operating large-scale data storage and processing solutions using various distributed and cloud-based platforms will support the organization’s data needs.
Automating Data Preparation Tasks: Using innovative tools and techniques to automate common, repeatable, and tedious data preparation tasks will minimize manual errors and improve productivity.
Mentoring and Agile Development: Coaching less experienced team members and using agile development methodologies like DevOps, Scrum, and Kanban will ensure the success of critical analytics initiatives and foster a collaborative team environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
To be successful in this role you will need the following:
System Requirements Engineering and Data Quality: Use appropriate methods to translate stakeholder needs into verifiable requirements and ensure data quality by identifying and correcting flaws that support effective information governance.
Effective Communication and Collaboration: Develop and deliver clear communications tailored to different audiences and build partnerships to work collaboratively towards shared objectives.
Customer Focus and Decision Quality: Build strong customer relationships and deliver customer-centric solutions while making good and timely decisions to keep the organization moving forward.
Programming and Problem Solving: Create, write, and test computer code and scripts using industry standards and tools. Solve problems systematically, leveraging industry methodologies to implement robust, data-based solutions and prevent recurrence.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience:
College, university, or equivalent degree in relevant technical discipline, or relevant equivalent experience required. This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.
Intermediate experience in a relevant discipline area is required. Knowledge of the latest technologies and trends in data engineering are highly preferred and includes:
Familiarity analyzing complex business systems, industry requirements, and/or data regulations
Background in processing and managing large data sets
Design and development for a Big Data platform using open source and third-party tools
SPARK, Scala/Java, Map-Reduce, Hive, Hbase, and Kafka or equivalent college coursework
SQL query language
Clustered compute cloud-based implementation experience
Experience developing applications requiring large file movement for a Cloud-based environment and other data extraction tools and methods from a variety of sources
Experience in building analytical solutions
Intermediate experiences in the following are preferred:
Experience with IoT technology and in Agile software development
Additional Details:
Work closely with business Product Owner to understand product vision.
Accountable for conducting comprehensive analyses to identify deficiencies in the current data architecture and redesigning the data framework to optimize the overall DBU Data & Analytics.
Play a key role across DBU Data & Analytics Power Cells to define, develop data architecture for respective functional areas under limited guidance.
Collaborate closely with CMI Enterprise Data Architecture and AAI Solutions Architecture to ensure alignment of DBU projects data design and modeling standards.
Play the role of Federated Data Architect and represent DBU Data & Analytics projects in CMI Architecture forums.
Design, develop Conceptual, Logical and Physical Data Models for the DBU Data & Analytics projects with limited guidance.
Participate in and contribute to the data architecture strategy, and the execution of critical programs such as Quantum, Unified Data Model, BI Simplification, Product Lifecycle Management, and Customer + Product Data Quality and governance.
Responsible for creation, maintenance and management of DBU Data & Analytics data architecture documentation.
Take part in evaluation of new data tools, POCs and provide suggestions.
Support the maintenance of developed data models, assist with enhancements, performance optimization, and address issues related to data models to ensure data accuracy and usability.
