Overview

The Clinical Social Worker III provides clinical care to children, adolescents, adults, and families, including mental health and medically-focused psychosocial evaluations, therapeutic interventions, and coordination of care in the Center for Autism Services, Science and Innovation (CASSI). The incumbent participates on client & family centered interdisciplinary teams reflecting strengths and needs of the client consistent with the values and principles of the practice of social work, and may be involved in training activities, outreach, and research as members of interdisciplinary programs and the department. The incumbent will participate in activities of leadership within the department, provide supervision to licensed social workers and clinical social workers, and may provide field instruction to trainees. This position may require the provision of after-hours, on-call social work services, and requires flexibility in scheduling to accommodate after-school and some early evening appointments as well as a share of coverage for LMSW and trainee appointments.

Responsibilities

  1. Provides mental health and psychosocial evaluations to clients referred for social work services.

  2. Provides mental health treatment in partnership with assigned clients.

  3. Provides coordination of care on behalf of clients in collaboration with Kennedy Krieger Institute interdisciplinary staff and community agencies. This may include attending internal and external meetings focused on client care.

  4. Utilizes supervision, interdisciplinary consultation, independent study, and training activities to ensure the delivery of high quality care based upon the needs of clients served in the assigned program(s) and or clinic(s).

  5. Provides timely appropriate documentation according to professional, departmental and Kennedy Krieger Institute guidelines while maintaining billing and productivity standards (as established by the department).

  6. Provides leadership for and serves on committees, and participates in training, outreach, and research activities as assigned.

  7. Collaborates with supervisor in overseeing assignment of supervisees and trainees’ caseloads.

  8. Provides additional administrative responsibilities, including reviewing and signing off on supervisees and trainees’ documentation in a timely manner.

  9. Assists in the establishment and monitoring of performance improvement and performance evaluation standards.

  10. Provides administrative and clinical supervision to advanced practice Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSW-C) and to Licensed Masters Social Workers (LMSW) in accordance with regulations established by the Board of Social Work Examiners to facilitate supervisees in obtaining necessary qualification to obtain advanced licenses, as assigned.

  11. Participates in the instruction and supervision of social work trainees as eligible within the training program criteria and approval.

Qualifications

  • Must possess and maintain a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW-C) license, issued by the Maryland State Department of Health and Mental Hygiene Board of Social Work Examiners.

  • Must be an authorized supervisor through the Board of Social Work Examiners.

  • Must possess clinical expertise in a specialized area of social work.

EDUCATION:

  • Master's degree from an accredited school of Social Work is required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum four years of licensed clinical experience required, preferably with children, adolescents and young adults with developmental, learning, medical and/or emotional disabilities.

  • Previous experience with the supervision of social work trainees is preferred.
