The Division of Street Medicine, within the Department of Family Medicine is seeking a board-certified Family Physician, Clinical Associate Professor of Family Medicine (Clinician Educator) to serve as Associate Medical Director for USC Street Medicine. The ideal candidate is a skilled clinician, educator and leader ready to dedicate themselves to support our team in caring for our most vulnerable patients. This is a full-time faculty position with an academic appointment in the Department of Family Medicine at the Keck School of Medicine of USC with all clinical service and administrative functions at USC Street Medicine.

The Associate Medical Director will report to the Medical Director and support them in the clinical supervision of the faculty and staff of the USC Street Medicine clinical practice, as well as with quality improvement activities, efforts to expand the scope of practice on the street and implementation of new programs, such as Enhance Care Management, housing navigation and billing. In partnership with the Medical Director, the Associate Medical Director will develop new operations to further the practice of street medicine.

This is a full-time, in-person faculty (exempt) position at the Alhambra, CA office. Some after-hour and weekend work may be involved.

The Department of Family Medicine at the Keck School of Medicine of USC includes a robust Keck Medicine clinical practice, the Keck Family Medicine Residency Program, the Primary Care Physician Assistant Program, USC Student Health, the National Center on Elder Abuse, medical student education, broad research and educational activities and USC Street Medicine.

Essential Functions of the Associate Medical Director:

• Reports to and supports the Medical Director of USC Street Medicine in developing the clinical practice to provide high quality medical care to the people experiencing unsheltered homelessness of greater Los Angeles.

• Alignment with the mission, vision, values of USC Street Medicine and the Department of Family Medicine

• Collaborate with other members of the leadership team for USC Street Medicine’s Clinical Practice, including Director, Medical Director, Administrators, Office Manager, Enhanced Care Management Manager and Supervising Community Health Worker.

Administrative Functions:

• Medication Dispensing – responsible for maintaining and updating the formulary of medications carried by the Street Medicine team for field-based medication dispensing.

• Point of Care Testing – responsible for maintenance of point of care testing, and working with Medical Director on developing new Point of Care testing projects

• Expanding Scope of Practice – support the Medical Director in developing and expanding scope of practice on the streets

• Provider Schedules – responsible for maintaining provider schedules

• Quality Improvement – support the Medical Director in developing a robust Quality program, and take leadership with specific Quality Improvement initiatives.

Clinical:

• Provide direct patient care to patients experiencing unsheltered homelessness in their lived environment on the street or wherever they’re found.

• Supervise clinical faculty and staff, as assigned.

Teaching

• Supervise clinical learners including, but not limited to medical students, PA students, and family medicine residents.

Experience:

Required:

Medical Degree

Board Certified in Family Medicine

Minimum 1 year post-residency experience

Clinic leadership experience – e.g. work on quality improvement projects, lead for Hep C, etc.

Preferred:

Experience in Medical Safety Net in California

Experience with Substance Use Treatment (MAT, etc.)

Experience with Mental Health Treatment

Experience with Point of Care Ultrasound

Experience with Street Medicine

The annual base salary range for this position is $235,000 - $265,000.
