Ithaca College ASSISTANT PROFESSOR – BIOLOGY in United States

The Department of Biology at Ithaca College invites applications for a one-year, full-time instructor to begin on August 16, 2024. This position may be eligible for renewal. The teaching expectations for this position involves teaching a large introductory biology course for students in the Health Sciences (2 lecture sections of approximately 70 students each) that focuses on evolution and ecology as well as designing and coordinating laboratories for the class in the Fall semester. Spring teaching will include a science course for non-majors and lab sections for the second half of the introductory biology course. Participating in the program, school, and college events is appreciated. This is an in-person teaching position with a teaching load of 24 credits. The College is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the excellence and diversity of its academic community.

Program Description: The Biology department is housed within the school of Humanities & Sciences, which consists of approximately 1200 undergraduates. The department offers both a B.A. and a B.S. in Biology, and a B.S. in Biochemistry (in collaboration with the Chemistry department). The department teaches a variety of courses for Biology/Biochemistry majors and minors, general education classes for non-science majors, and service courses for other programs in the Health Sciences. Consistent with the mission of Ithaca College, excellence in teaching is a critical factor in evaluation of faculty.

Qualifications: PhD in Biology, ABD considered. A history of excellence in teaching and/or mentoring of undergraduates is preferred.
