The Assistant Manager, Transportation is responsible for management and coordination of the custodial contract and maintenance of all parking garages, creating work orders through AggieWorks, assistance with the hiring process of all personnel including student workers, and assisting the unit manager with campus construction coordination and management of the unit.

Salary: $58,000/year - $67,000/year

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Four years of relevant experience in administrative and/or construction experience, to include three years supervisory experience.

Required Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid driver’s license. Must be able to obtain State of Texas class “C” vehicle operator’s license within 30 days of employment.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Demonstrated leadership ability; ability to identify work priorities; advanced skills in oral and written communication.

  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and to function without perceivable supervision.

  • Ability to accomplish objectives through the development and utilization of personnel.

  • Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others; ability to use Microsoft Office, Outlook, and Teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five years supervisory experience.

  • Experience with contracts including writing and general knowledge.

  • Some construction and/or project management experience.

  • Knowledge of locations on Texas A&M campus, such as buildings, parking lots, and streets.

  • Knowledge of and experience with managing and/or working special events.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervision- Responsible for selecting, orienting, training, motivating, and retaining staff capable of meeting current and projected needs for the unit. Also charged with ensuring adequate staffing for meeting unit goals to include interviewing and hiring, disciplinary actions and terminations, probationary reviews, and annual evaluations. Provides employees with operational feedback. Plans, schedules, and monitors staff, including responsibility for coordinating/assigning and scheduling leave. Responsible for approving time worked and leave requests for full-time employees. Assists with supervision and overseeing of all special event operations related to the Parking Projects and Maintenance unit of Transportation Services (signs and barricades). This includes reviewing operations maps of each event and attending both departmental and external special event-related meetings. Additionally, supervision extends to all parking garages, parking lots, streets, sidewalks, and bollards, etc. Assists with tracking conditions of all previously listed areas and submits requests/work orders to have issues corrected. Maintenance requests should be coordinated with Facilities Management and SSC to ensure maintenance issues are completed in a timely manner.

  • Custodial Contract and Services- Manages and coordinates the custodial services contract. Oversees custodial contractor's efficacy by performing inspections to check for cleanliness of the garages and office spaces as well as ensuring staff is acting in a responsible manner. Contacts University Police dispatch as needed with vandalism complaints. Relays complaints from Transportation Services employees and others regarding cleaning services to the custodial crew supervisor and ensures complaints are resolved in a timely manner. Tracks the contractor’s efforts as part of an overall strategy to provide better service and a cleaner environment to our customers of garages and parking structures. Schedules intensified cleaning with custodial contractor during break periods. Monitors property maintenance issues to ensure they have been completed with Parking Projects and Maintenance unit and/or Facilities Services. Contacts Facilities Services dispatch as needed regarding preventative maintenance issues. Meets with the area manager of the cleaning contractor to ensure the cleaning process meets the expectations of Transportation Services. Develops a comprehensive plan for cleaning and maintaining garages and parking structures, which will include a 365-day schedule to be used as a tool to plan for future activities and improvements in processes as well as to track actual cleaning effort.

  • Construction Projects- Assists the manager in managing campus construction projects involving Transportation Services to include attending meetings with Facilities Services and Facilities Coordination, monitoring arrangements agreed upon for laydown areas, timelines, etc. to ensure compliance by all parties. Attends pre-construction meetings. Assists with matters to include contractor parking on campus, creating work orders through AggieWorks, and assisting with the coordination of construction renovation and repairs for Transportation Services. Responsible for monitoring the unit’s budget and assisting the manager in the preparation of the annual budget and long-range planning activities as required. Serves as the backup for the manager in their absence for all construction related projects as well as management of the unit.

  • Administration- Promotes safety to ensure that safety policies and procedures are followed by staff in the unit.

  • Fiscal= Assists the manager in the formulation, interpretation, and implementation of departmental and unit goals, objectives, and policies to ensure delivery of quality services. Serves as the Property Accountability Officer for the unit. Responsible for managing audit controls within unit.

  • Liaison- Represents the department on committees and at meetings around campus.

  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to climb stairs. Ability to work in hot and cold weather conditions. Ability to stand for extended periods of time.

Other Requirements and Factors:

  • Ability to work in all weather conditions.

  • Required to work overtime, weekends, occasional holidays, and all home football games.
