Western Carolina University Assistant Director of Fraternity & Sorority Life - #004262 in United States
Position Summary:
The primary location of this position is the main Cullowhee, NC campus. This position is exempt from the State Human Resources Act ( EHRA ).
The Assistant Director of Fraternity and Sorority Life plays a pivotal role in advancing the mission of the Department of Greek Student Engagement & Development ( GSED ). This position is responsible for overseeing the tracking of student success through the Registration & Recognition assessment, maintaining the departmental scorecard for fraternities and sororities, advising one or more fraternity and sorority councils, facilitating leadership development, and providing case management/support for students involved in fraternity and sorority life.
Key Responsibilities:
Student Success Tracking and Assessment:
Oversee the Registration & Recognition assessment process to ensure accurate tracking of fraternity and sorority student success metrics.
Analyze assessment data to inform program improvements and student support strategies in collaboration with the Director of Fraternity & Sorority Life.
Maintain and update the departmental scorecard, ensuring accurate and timely data entry.
Use data to identify trends and opportunities for enhancing the fraternity and sorority experience, in collaboration with the Director of Fraternity & Sorority Life.
Advising and Council Governance:
Advise one or more fraternity and sorority councils, providing guidance on governance, programming, and policy adherence.
Foster a collaborative relationship with council leaders, offering support and resources for their initiatives.
Facilitate council meetings and retreats, promoting effective leadership and governance practices.
Leadership Development:
Develop and implement leadership programs tailored to fraternity and sorority members.
Collaborate with campus partners to provide comprehensive leadership development opportunities.
Case Management and Student Support:
Provide case management for fraternity and sorority members, offering support and resources for academic, personal, and organizational challenges.
Serve as a point of contact for connecting students with appropriate campus resources.
Promote and enforce policies related to risk management, health and wellness, and inclusivity within the fraternity and sorority community.
Program Development and Implementation:
Assist in the development and implementation of programs and initiatives that align with the GSED mission and support student engagement.
Collaborate with colleagues to create inclusive and equitable learning opportunities for all fraternity and sorority members.
Evaluate program effectiveness and make data-driven recommendations for improvement.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship from the employer.
Master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, or a related field, or Bachelor’s degree and 2 years’ experience post-degree in higher education and/or fraternity and sorority life. Degree must be from an appropriately accredited institution.
Understanding of the values and principles of fraternity and sorority life, as demonstrated by relevant coursework, certifications, or professional experience.
Analytical skills and experience with assessment and data management, evidenced by specific examples or previous roles requiring these skills.
Interpersonal and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively, supported by examples from previous positions.
Experience in leadership development, advising, and program management, as shown by specific roles or documented achievements.
Demonstrated commitment to inclusivity, accountability, and holistic student development, supported by examples or previous initiatives.
Availability to work evenings and weekends as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of Inter/National fraternity and sorority systems, policies, and procedures, as evidenced by relevant coursework, certifications, or professional experience.
Experience advising or working with NPHC (National Pan-Hellenic Council) and/or multicultural Greek student letter organizations, supported by specific roles or documented experience.
Documented experience in developing and implementing successful student engagement programs, demonstrated by specific examples or measurable outcomes from previous positions.
