What we want
The Animal Caretaker I, under supervision, provides routine care for animals clients in the clinic setting and for related facilities.

Compensation will be commensurate to selected hire’s experience.
Other Requirements or Other Factors:
Persons in this position are considered essential when the University declares an emergency, campus closure, class cancellations, etc., and are therefore required to report to work and remain on duty unless/until relieved by the direct supervisor. May require working alternate shifts, holidays, weekends, or on-call duty. Provides quality customer service to internal and external customers/clients.
Required Education and Experience:
- High School diploma/GED or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others
Ability to comprehend instructions.
Preferred Qualifications:
More than two years’ experience in animal handling or animal care.
Basic computer skills.
Basic knowledge of equipment used in a veterinary teaching hospital.
Responsibilities:
Cleaning and Disinfection: Cleans and disinfects animal housing areas including, but not limited to, cages, runs, wards, corridors, infectious and isolation areas, floors, walls, windows, sinks, ceiling vents and cabinets. Maintains a sanitary well organized service area. Empties trash and transport to dumpster daily. Empties and transport laundry to the basement daily. Stocks the bath ward daily with towels. Maintains TRUDY examination areas. May bathe animals as needed. Provides care for research animals as needed .
Stocking of service areas: Stocks animal food area, preparation area, and animal wards. Maintains stock in exam rooms.
Outside Duties: Maintains animal grass area cleanliness. Sweeps and cleans out the loading dock. Ensures that the Casita is cleaned and stocked daily. Empties dog waste cans. Maintains biohazard bins in the Casita.
Transportation: Transports deceased animals, back and forth from necropsy as directed. Transports pet food. Provides customer service by carrying food out to their vehicle as needed. Operates UTV as needed.
Observation-Research Animals: Observes and reports conditions of Research Animals: behavior, problems or conditions that develop with animals while under our care, to appropriate medical staff or supervisor. Assists in other departments as needed. Performs other duties as assigned
