Role Description:

The Weather Supervisor at Baghdad Diplomatic Service Center BDSC is responsible for leading the meteorological team and providing accurate and timely weather information critical to airport operations and flight safety. This role involves advanced weather forecasting, data analysis, and collaboration with various airport departments and external agencies. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in meteorology, strong leadership skills, and a thorough understanding of aviation weather impacts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and manage the meteorological team, ensuring high-quality performance and adherence to standards.

  • Develop and implement meteorological procedures and policies IAW US Air Force Manuals 15-129, Volumes 1 and 2 and instructions as the primary guidance for weather forecasts, briefings, warnings, and advisories.

  • Implement operational requirements derived from the World Meteorological Organization Technical Regulations Basic Documents No. 2 Volume I General Meteorological Standards and Recommended Practices.

  • Conduct regular training sessions for staff on weather analysis, forecasting techniques, and emergency procedures.

  • Provide accurate and timely weather forecasts and updates for airport operations, including short-term and long-term predictions.

  • Conduct, record, and transmit airfield Meteorological Aerodrome Report METAR observations in accordance with the World Meteorological Organizations standards utilizing current Air Force Manual 15-111 and the AN-TMQ-53.

  • Utilize advanced meteorological tools and technologies to monitor and analyze weather patterns and phenomena.

  • Issue weather warnings and advisories to relevant airport personnel and stakeholders.

  • Coordinate with air traffic controllers, pilots, and airport management to relay critical weather information.

  • Liaise with national and local meteorological agencies to ensure consistency and accuracy of weather data.

  • Prepare and deliver weather briefings and reports to airport authorities and external partners.

  • Maintain comprehensive records of weather observations, forecasts, and related data.

  • Analyze historical weather data to improve forecasting accuracy and support airport planning.

  • Produce detailed weather reports and presentations for various stakeholders.

  • Ensure all meteorological operations comply with FAA regulations and airport safety standards.

  • Participate in emergency response planning and execution, particularly for adverse weather conditions.

  • Implement and oversee safety protocols related to weather impacts on airport operations.

  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in meteorological science and technology.

  • Conduct research to enhance forecasting models and methods.

  • Evaluate new meteorological tools and systems for potential implementation at the airport.

Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications :

  • Bachelors degree in Atmospheric Science or High school diploma with four years military experience as a weather forecaster.

  • Certification from a recognized meteorological society e.g., American Meteorological Society.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in meteorology, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or leadership role.

  • Experience in aviation meteorology and a thorough understanding of its impact on airport operations.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency in using meteorological software, tools, and instruments.

  • Knowledge of FAA regulations and airport operations is essential.

  • Ability to pass physical screening

  • Passport with 18 months remaining.
