About the role

Second Nature is looking for a detail-oriented and technical Accounting Manager who excels in managing general ledger functions and navigating sales and use tax regulations. The ideal candidate will bring a proven track record in these areas, along with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced startup environment. This role is pivotal in ensuring the accuracy and compliance of our financial operations and will involve significant interaction with both internal stakeholders and external partners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • General Ledger Management: Oversee and maintain the general ledger, ensuring accurate and timely recording of all financial transactions. Reconcile GL accounts and resolve discrepancies.

  • Month-End Close: Hands on for the month-end processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.

  • Balance Sheet Reconciliation: Lead the reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness. Investigate and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.

  • Transaction Cleanup: Review and clean up transaction records, identifying and correcting errors or inconsistencies. Ensure that all financial transactions are accurately recorded and properly classified.

  • Sales and Use Tax Compliance: Manage sales and use tax compliance, including the calculation, reporting, and filing of sales tax returns. Stay updated on relevant tax laws and regulations to ensure adherence.

  • Audit Coordination: Prepare documentation and assist with external audits, ensuring accurate and organized financial records.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; CPA or CMA certification preferred. Master’s degree in Accounting or Finance preferred.

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in accounting, with a strong focus on general ledger management and transactional accounting.

  • Demonstrated expertise in managing GL functions, including reconciliations and financial reporting.

  • In-depth knowledge of sales and use tax regulations and experience handling sales tax filings and audits.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and/or Google Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides), experience with various tech stacks and accounting software (e.g., NetSuite, Bill.com) to optimize financial processes and reporting.

  • Excellent analytical skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of the organization.

  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and adapt to a dynamic startup environment.
