Job Description

The Software Project Manager role for the Software Business Unit within the Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry Division (“CMD”) within Thermo Fisher Scientific will be responsible for planning, executing, and finalizing software projects according to the software development lifecycle process. This includes allocation of resources, coordinating the efforts of team members and collaborators, to deliver projects on time and within budget.

Key responsibilities include, but are not exclusively:

  • Define project scope, goals, and results that support business goals in collaboration with Product Management and key collaborators, being accountable for all aspects of the SDLC process.

  • Develop, schedule and implement project plans, effectively communicating project expectations and important metrics in a timely and clear fashion, pre-emptively identifying and resolving issues.

  • Set and continually handle project expectations, estimate the resources and participants required to realize project goals with a focus on coaching, mentoring, and empowering project team members, influencing them to take positive action and accountability for their assigned work.

  • Identify and lead project dependencies, figuring out the critical path, and proactively lead any changes in project scope, identifying potential crises and devising contingency plans.

  • Develop enhanced practices and tools for project execution and management.

Requirements:

Education/ Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field. PMP or equivalent project management certification is highly desirable.

  • Minimum of 10 years of project management experience in software development or IT projects.

  • Strong understanding of software development life cycles (SDLC), including Agile and Waterfall methodologies.

  • Proficiency with project management software tools, such as PPM Pro, Azure DevOps, Microsoft Project, or equivalent, as well as MS Office or Office 365 skills.
