BMO Financial Group Senior Environmental Risk Reviewer in Virtual, Louisiana

Under the direction of the Environmental Risk Manager; engage and review environmental site assessment reports independent from the Bank’s loan production / approval process for the P&C and PCG U.S. lines of business, navigate risks disclosed in environmental assessment reports. Provide professional subject matter expertise to the risk management and credit decision aspects of real estate-secured loans/credits and proactive risk management awareness and liability reduction. In the role you will adhere to OCC regulations and Bank environmental policy/guidelines/procedures relative to P&C and PCG U.S. commercial real estate secured credits.

*This is a 100% remote role- open to anywhere in the U.S.

  • Review environmental assessment reports and determine if the reports are acceptable.

Prepare a written evaluation and opinion that characterizes the risk; this includes translating the environmental risks into understandable terms.

Provide solutions to address the issues within the framework of the loan transaction.

Engage Bank-approved 3rd party environmental firms to perform environmental site assessments. This task is limited to engagements for SAMU (Special Account Management Unit) pre-foreclosure projects.

Document completion of evaluation of environment assessment reports by entering the review memo, pertinent reports and correspondences in CREASU’s (Commercial Real Estate Appraisal Services Unit) risk management platform known as RIMS (Real Estate Information Management System).

Assist Environmental Risk Manager to train, educate and advise bankers to comply with the Bank’s environmental policy requirements.

Serve as liaison between the borrower and the banker to ensure environmental investigations meet the Bank’s requirements in a timely manner.

Provide professional subject matter expertise to the risk management and credit decision aspects of real estate-secured loans/credits.

Proactive risk management awareness and liability reduction.

Leads and integrates the monitoring, measurement & reporting on the status of the credit risk governance program to internal & external stakeholders.

Provides advice and guidance to assigned business/group on implementation of the risk framework, including effective challenge.

Consults with stakeholders to improve consistency and transparency of risk measurement, metrics and reporting.

Develops and maintains in-depth knowledge of business and related risk management requirements and legislative/ regulatory directives and guidance.

Builds effective relationships with internal/external stakeholders.

Enterprise-wide focus touching every line of business.

Works independently and regularly handles non-routine situations.

Broader work or accountabilities may be assigned as needed.

Qualifications:

Undergraduate Degree or requisite long-term experience in geological sciences, environmental engineering, or similar related disciplines

Licensed or certified as an environmental risk professional;

Minimum of 10 years of experience as an environmental risk professional preferably with 3rd party environmental consulting firm;

Possess an acceptable understanding of implementing and governing an environmental risk management function for a financial services institution.

Working knowledge of bank products and credit lending services

Working knowledge / experience with Microsoft Suite of products such as Excel, Word, power Point and Access, as well as working knowledge of Argus

Skills:

Strong time management and organization skills to manage multiple priorities

Ability to work independently but interact in a team-oriented environment

Salary:

$72,500.00 - $134,500.00

The above represents BMO Financial Group’s pay range and type.

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.
