Microsoft Research Asia (MSRA) is now extending roles into Hongkong and looking for a Principal Researcher specializing in AI with a strong focus on Multimedia and Vision, Multimodal Foundation Models, Immersive Computing, Embodied AI, and Machine Learning for healthcare and wireless . This is an exceptional opportunity to drive an ambitious research agenda while collaborating with diverse teams to push for novel applications of those research areas.

Responsibilities

•As a leading and accomplished expert in a broad research area (e.g., Multimedia and Vision, AI and Machine Learning, Systems and Networking). Understands the corresponding literature, applicable research techniques, and business and academic context.

•Leads a joint research effort (possibly involving multiple teams/Universities inside and outside of Microsoft) to pursue a long-term research agenda which is in line with MSRA strategy

•As a local representative, fosters cooperative relationships with local governments, academic communities, industry partners and business groups within Microsoft to establish MSRA presence locally and support future growth

•Creates synergy among MSRA research groups in multiple locations to enable collaboration and creativity.

Qualifications

•Doctorate in relevant field AND 5+ years related research experience.

•Is recognized within academia as a leader in research domain.

•Passion to see research has a real-world impact on key challenges for society.

•Strong influencing and communication skills to engage with various stakeholders externally and internally.

•Be able to work within a dynamic team

•High personal standard to deliver a thoughtful, polished and quality work product.

•Experience publishing academic papers as a lead author or essential contributor.

•Experience participating in a top conference in relevant research domain.
