The Energy discipline consists of c. 500 colleagues in the UK and India with a growth strategy to double in size by 2027. It consists of 6 Core Service Lines: Renewables, Thermal Transition, Gas & H2, Quality Services, Networks and Energy Advisory.

Renewables sits within Energy Transition which combines Thermal Transition, Gas & H2 and Quality Services to represent a circa 190 strong collaborative Discipline. The UK Energy team is the largest in the WSP global business and we have a strong international heritage, working closely with other regions to bring the best of WSP to our clients globally.

YOUR TEAM

The Renewables Service Line sits within the UK Energy Transition Discipline. The service lines provide services to clients from inception through development, construction, operation, and decommissioning in addition to strong Due Diligence and Lenders Technical Advisory capabilities. This enables us to support clients over the entire lifecycle of a project across onshore and offshore wind, solar and energy storage sub-sectors.

YOUR NEW ROLE, WHATS INVOLVED?

Leadership

Develop and implement a clear vision and strategy for Renewables which is communicated and embraced across the business.

Develop and execute a business development plan, aligned with this strategy, to drive transformational organic growth.

Commercial & Financial

Accountable for delivering on budget and forecast commitments – P&L and working capital. This includes ensuring there is sufficient secured work and resources to deliver on these commitments.

Accountable for the accuracy of actual/forecast secured work, revenue, project contribution, project time, working capital and profitability of the service line.

Accountable for the effective commercial discipline governance, reviews (bid, contract, project management, etc.), guidance and direction in association with Legal and Operations teams.

Anticipate and resolve commercial project challenges. Engaging directly with clients as required to achieve the best outcome for WSP.

Responsibilities

Provide strategic direction to the Renewables service line. Defining a clear strategy for the business to harness the entrepreneurial spirit within the team and focus it on defined segments that enable top/bottom-line growth. Specific consideration should be given to growing our domestic workload and supporting our growth ambitions into Offshore Wind.

Lead the business to foster a culture of technical excellence and innovation. Promote the importance of delivering quality, sustainability, technical excellence, innovation and best practice solutions.

Support focused regional, national and international business development activities through participation in external market profile raising activities and functions and through involvement with strategic clients.

Actively involved in building and maintaining key client relationships, embedding a client-centred culture to effectively position WSP to secure future business. Set clearly defined client service plans for each functional area of the business.

Lead strategic bids and support all bids issued by the service line. Where appropriate, contribute to and review submissions and attend client presentations. Undertake prospect / fee bid reviews, overview and sign off proposals in accordance with authorisation matrix.

  • An experienced leader in the Renewables sector known for driving innovation and trust, with a strong strategic vision and transformative leadership skills.

  • A collaborative team builder, excelling in relationship-building and passionate about developing people with a commitment to diversity and inclusion

  • Educated to degree standard, MBA or similar post degree qualification an advantage. Exceptional candidates without a degree will be considered, if they can demonstrate equivalent professional qualifications (e.g. Chartered Status);

  • Continued their professional development, through participation in relevant organisations, conferences, events and self-study (formal institutional CPD evidence is not required as this varies significantly between professions);
