Amentum Shipfitter Lead in Egypt

Amentum is actively seeking a Shipfitter Lead for International Fleet Support under the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) PMS 326 Follow-On Technical Support (FOTS) contract. The work location will be at the Egyptian Naval Base in the port of Alexandria, Egypt. This position includes a competitive benefits package.

Essential responsibilities and daily duties include:

  • Supervise and lead shipfitting projects, including hull fabrication, bulkhead installation, deck plate fitting, and structural modifications aboard naval surface ships.

  • Ensure all fitting work adheres to Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), NAVSEA, and classification society standards, ensuring proper alignment and structural strength.

  • Perform inspections and tests to verify that all structural components are installed correctly, aligned, and meet strength requirements.

  • Provide hands-on training and mentorship to junior shipfitters and apprentices, ensuring they develop strong fitting and fabrication skills.

  • Collaborate with welders, electricians, and engineers to ensure that shipfitting work is aligned with the overall shipbuilding or repair process.

  • Provide detailed and technically accurate written condition and open and inspection reports. Use technical publications to identify and order required repair parts.

  • Participate as a member of the Amentum Ship Repair Team (SRT) in close coordination with the Industrial Manager.

  • Provide timely and comprehensive inputs for the Monthly Status Report.

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • 5+ years of experience in shipfitting or structural fabrication in a shipyard or marine setting, ideally with a focus on naval surface ships.

  • At least 2-3 years of leadership or supervisory experience, managing teams of shipfitters or structural workers in shipbuilding or repair projects.

  • Experience with NAVSEA standards and practices specific to the fabrication and repair of naval ship structures is highly desirable.

  • Expertise in fabricating, fitting, and installing steel and aluminum plates for hull construction, bulkheads, decks, and superstructures.

  • Knowledge of hull integrity and the ability to handle structural repairs for naval vessels, ensuring that work meets strength and safety requirements.

  • Ability to use P&IDs, isometric drawings, and detailed technical diagrams to accurately measure, cut, and fit components.

  • Proficiency in cutting, shaping, and fitting steel plates and structural components using tools such as plasma cutters, oxy-acetylene torches, and grinders.

  • Experience in preparing materials for welding, ensuring proper joint preparation and alignment for structural integrity and strength.

  • Proficiency in metal fabrication techniques, including cutting, bending, shaping, and joining steel, aluminum, and other metals used in shipbuilding.

  • Experience conducting structural tests, such as measuring tolerances and alignment using plumb bobs, levels, transits, and other precision tools.

  • Knowledge of rigging techniques to lift and position large structural components during installation or repairs using cranes or hoists.

  • Ability to ensure all ship fitting work complies with military specifications and safety regulations.

  • Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to interpret vessel blueprints and ship drawings in addition to research ships’ systems manuals to identify problems as they arise.

  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

  • Ability to obtain a Country Clearance and Base Pass authorization.

  • Ability to possess a current passport at least two years before expiration after arrival in Egypt.

  • Ability to travel CONUS and OCONUS.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Completion of an apprenticeship or vocational training in shipfitting, metal fabrication, or marine construction is preferred.

  • Prior ship maintenance experience or working knowledge of expectations and safety protocols related to a shipyard environment.

  • Experience working in an Arab country for long periods.
