Overview

The Emergency Vehicle Technician’s (EVT) primary duties are the repair and maintenance of emergency fire protection vehicles and equipment. The EVT also performs preventative maintenance, routine maintenance/repairs, and emergency repairs on all company-owned vehicles, including construction equipment, automobiles, light, medium, and heavy-duty trucks, fire apparatus, ambulances, as well as other contract required maintenance assets.

• Essential Job Functions

• Performs routine preventative maintenance and inspections on fleet of standard and emergency vehicles and equipment.

• Emergency Vehicle Technicians are trained specifically to maintain and repair firefighting equipment and emergency vehicles, including fire engines, tenders, tankers, rescue, flight line assets, foam systems, air compressor, dry chemical systems, hazmat response vehicles, and utility vehicles all known as firefighting apparatus.

• Performs other job duties as assigned to include travel to other V2X projects in other countries and adaptable to short notice taskings to provide support at other V2X locations globally.

• Performs troubleshooting and accurate diagnoses of electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and computerized vehicle components.

• Performs scheduled and unscheduled repairs to the fleet of standard and emergency vehicles and equipment.

• Repairs standard and emergency vehicles and equipment conforming to industry standards.

• Responds to roadside or field repairs.

• Utilizes fleet maintenance program to record detailed and accurate documentation of service and repairs.

• Conducts new vehicle and equipment check-in, make-ready, and decommissioning operations.

• Performs good housekeeping practices to maintain the shop, work area, tools, and equipment in a safe and orderly manner.

• Test drives/operate vehicles and equipment before and after repairs.

• Interacts in a professional and respectful manner with coworkers, other company employees, vendors, and the client (USG)

• Regular and punctual attendance is required.

• As the lead EVT, required to oversee and supervise other mechanics as part of the BSVE or Motor Pool.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements – Experience - Emergency Vehicle Technician LV I & II.

• Must meet the qualifications as defined in NFPA 1071 Standard for Emergency Vehicle Technician Professional Qualifications for EVT I & II.

• Mastered NFPA 1901 standard for automotive fire apparatus and NFPA 1911 standard for the inspection, maintenance and testing of automotive fire apparatus.

• Mastered fault determination through systematic troubleshooting of hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and mechanical systems.

• Automotive Services Excellence (ASE) T2 Thru T4 are highly recommended.

• The EVT Technician must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent.

• Requires a minimum of two years of experience in automotive and/or heavy truck repair.

• One year of small engine repair experience is desired.

• Five years’ experience in heavy equipment and/or Fire Apparatus repair.

• Must possess at the following EVT certifications: F1, F2, F3 and, F4.

• F5, F6, E1, E2, E3, or E4 are desired and will be noted on application.

• Ambulance and ARFF Technician certifications and or experience, or applicable manufacturer training and certifications are desirable.

• ASE Master Medium/Heavy Truck Technician certification is desirable and a plus if this level of experience is provided during application.

• Must be CAC eligible and/or the ability to obtain a “Token” CAC.”

• A valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a U. S. Government Motor Vehicle Operator’s License and Commercial Driver’s license is preferred.

• Must be able to Operate vehicles with a manual transmission.

• Mobile A/C certification, MACS, or equivalent is desired.

• Required to be On-Call 24 hours a day for a seven-day period.

  Knowledge/Skillsets/Abilities

• Must be self-motivated with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

• Knowledge of NFPA standards and regulations for emergency vehicle maintenance and repair.

• Must have knowledge of repairs and troubleshooting of automotive, heavy truck, and construction equipment.

• Ability to read, understand and comprehend owners’ manuals, repairs manuals, schematics, and drawings to repair and maintain the fleet in accordance with manufacturers’ recommendations for troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and repair procedures.

• Knowledge of fluids and components used in the repair and servicing of vehicles and equipment.

• Knowledge of proper disposal procedures for used oils, chemicals, and other hazardous materials.

• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely verbally and in writing.

• Ability to work effectively in a team environment, contribute as a team member, and treat others with respect.

• Ability to prioritize, monitor, and organize work assignments efficiently.

• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions to complete tasks as assigned.

• Ability to work after normal business hours, weekends, and weekdays, as needed.

• Skill in operating shop tools and equipment while following safety practices and standard operating procedures.

• Skilled in the use of computers, maintenance software, and other office equipment

• Skill in proactively identifying and resolving issues, consistently making sound decisions, and correctly executing policy processes and procedures.

  Working Conditions

• Physical demands essential to an EVT Technician include strenuous activities such as lifting, pushing, pulling, shoveling, sweeping, and carrying heavy objects.

• Frequent standing, crawling, kneeling, crouching, balancing, stooping, and climbing will be required.

• Exerting up to one hundred pounds of force occasionally, and/or fifty pounds of force frequently, and/or up to twenty pounds of force consistently.

• Mental and visual acuity along with talking and hearing are required to routinely perform physical activities and maintain a safe work environment.

• Safety PPE equipment is provided and must be worn as required by policy and good safety practices.

• Work is performed primarily inside and outside and is subject to all types of weather and temperature conditions. The worker may be exposed to chemicals, solvents, fumes, smoke and gases, and diverse types of surfaces, including slippery or uneven surfaces.

  Leadership Relationship

• The Emergency Vehicle Technician reports directly to the Deputy Project Manager.

  License and certifications must be maintained during the term of employment
