The Montana Heritage Commission preserves and manages historic resources in Virginia City, Nevada City and Reeder’s Alley and promotes the appreciation of history through quality visitor experiences. About this Position The Montana Heritage Commission preserves and manages historic resources in Virginia City, Nevada City and Reeder’s Alley and promotes the appreciation of history through quality visitor experiences. The Preservation, Maintenance & Safety Specialist is responsible for the skilled repair, maintenance, and preservation of over 200 historic buildings, artifacts, and properties in Virginia City, Nevada City, and Reeder's Alley. The role involves hands-on restoration work, project coordination, safety oversight, and environmental management to ensure the protection and long-term sustainability of Montana’s cultural heritage sites. This position performs skilled repairs and construction work, including carpentry, masonry, and reproduction of historical elements (e.g., windows, roofs, wood panels) as well as road and fence maintenance and repair. This position is located in Virginia City, MT with occasional travel to Helena, MT. * *Education and Experience: // · Extensive experience in historic preservation, construction, or facility maintenance roles · Proficiency in carpentry, masonry, painting, and restoration work. · Familiarity with specialized preservation tools and techniques, as well as safety protocols, is preferred.
