Study Group Adjunct Instructor in Virgina, Virginia

Contract type: Part Time (3 to 12 hours per week) 

Location: Virginia, James Madison University

Experienced and motivated instructors are needed to teach courses in the James Madison University International Study Center in Harrisonburg, VA. for 2024-25. The JMU ISC is an academic Pathway program providing courses to international students in English skills, academic skills, and U.S. culture.

We are seeking candidates to teach in an adjunct capacity on a by-semester basis. Available class sections will vary based on enrollment needs and cannot be guaranteed.

ABOUT THE ROLE

  • In-person classroom teaching 3-12 hours per week (1-4 classes per semester)

  • Full responsibility for class preparation, teaching, assessment, grading, and student support as needed

  • Minimum of one scheduled office hour per week

  • Participation in faculty/staff meetings and teaching-related initiatives

  • Regular submission of lesson plans and other class materials, as requested

    ABOUT YOU

  • Master’s Degree

  • Minimum of two years of English language or related teaching experience in a classroom setting

  • Excellent communication skills in both spoken and written English

  • Master’s Degree in TESOL, Education, or closely-related field OR a Master’s Degree plus Graduate Certificate in TESOL

  • Experience working with multicultural, multilingual, and/or multinational populations
