Katmai Engineering Tech/Aid II in VICKSBURG, Mississippi
SUMMARY
Responsible for process and design, and for providing support to the conceptualization and design of operational, organizational, and command-level plans to support the development of automated, integrated, engineering environments. Utilize best practices and design methods to ensure the success of the projects. Function a part of the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) Reach Back Operations Center (UROC).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Review, analyze, modify, and evaluate systems operations.
Respond to UROC helpdesk requests related to Secure Internet Router Network (SIPRNet) Common Access Card (CAC) account access, voice over SIPRNet access, and wireless and secure communication devices.
Conduct bi-weekly update patches on the UROC secure and non-secure desktops and servers. Respond to the Reachback Engineer Data integration (REDi) website portal update requests.
Responsible for conducting independent software validation, verification, and accreditation.
Design / implement / manage multiple MS SharePoint farm environments on UNCLASSIFIED and SECRET security domains along with maintaining application and data synchronization between farms.
Perform requirements for application backup and subsequent recovery as documented in the UROC COOP Plan prior to deployment on ACE-IT systems.
Provide network security in the area of virus detection, restart/recovery from virus attacks, and backup procedures in accordance with government regulations.
Maintain documentation for all application hardware and software related to UROC applications.
Provide technical assistance for accepting account access requests, verifying user identification, and properly assigning and documenting user permissions and privileges.
Provide technical assistance and training to user base for application-specific instruction, features, performance, and functionality.
Attend bi-weekly customer progress meetings.
Review RFIs (requests for information) and redirect the RFI to the appropriate laboratory RFI point of contact.
Setup and/or disassemble and configure network-associated equipment.
Provide technical assistance with the creation of export tools needed for data grids and reports including charts and graphs.
Perform Communications Security (COMSEC) Technician duties, prepare and maintain all required documentation.
Provide user support, receive, log, respond to and correct user trouble calls.
Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of three (3) years of professional engineering experience in design, development and documentation of computer systems, software, and databases for application to ERDC systems using Ada and other higher order language(s) and specialized database development tools.
Associate’s degree in an applicable discipline. In lieu of degree, relevant work experience may be substituted on a year for year basis.
Ability to secure and maintain a SECRET clearance.
Must obtain and maintain any necessary security access and/or background checks (U.S. citizenship required).
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
Familiar with a variety of the concepts, practices, and procedures within a project’s technical field.
Knowledge of current modeling and simulation principles, techniques, processes, regulations, and policies.
Knowledge of software acquisition management, software development methodologies and software engineering processes.
Expertise in applying current and evolving engineering technologies.
Ability to provide technical advice on the conceptual design of simulations, simulators, training, and instrumentation systems required to support complex equipment or systems.
Ability to execute complex, multi-faceted projects within established financial and time constraints.
Working knowledge of all phases of computer system design and computer software acquisition management.
Working knowledge of telecommunications and networking standards, architectures, protocols, and systems as it applies to training devices, simulation, simulators, and instrumentation.
Comprehensive knowledge of software architecture and object modeling, domain engineering and software engineering processes as it applies to training/testing devices, simulations, simulators, and instrumentation.
Comprehensive knowledge in software quality assurance and SCM as applied to the software life cycle development process.
Ability to understand user requirements, develop effective solutions, solve end user’s needs.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational skills and detail oriented.
Ability to multi-task.
Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; monitors own work to ensure quality.
Proven ability to exercise mature judgment – specifically in recognizing and respecting the confidential nature of corporate and personnel matters.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a professional office setting and laboratory testing environment, including the normal office equipment (computer, fax machines, copier), laboratory equipment, and with a wide variety of people in differing functions, personalities, and abilities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Position consists of sitting for long periods of time, using hands/fingers, handling, reaching with hands and arms, talking, hearing; occasional walking or standing, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, and lifting boxes weighing up to 30 pounds. Moderate to extended periods of office work with heavy periods of computer usage.
