The Doe Run Company is currently seeking a Laboratory Supervisor to maintain the laboratory Quality Assurance/Quality Control Program and supervise chemical lab staff. This position is located at our Quentin J Schmidt Lab in Viburnum, MO.

Responsibilities:

  1. Quality Assurance: Conduct quality assurance checks and complete required reports. Review data and assays produced by laboratory technicians, check to ensure that quality checks run within the acceptable limits, that assay figures are correctly obtained and entered, and that appropriate procedures are used to obtain results.
  2. Quality Control: Determine, maintain, and update laboratory Standard Operating Procedures. Complete Demonstrations of Capability with employees and track employee paperwork in order to ensure knowledge of, mastery of, and compliance with Standard Operating Procedures. Obtain known value/certified standards to verify accuracy of all required elements. Develop and perform test work: assess the need for new procedures and perform test work to develop and verify the accuracy of the procedures; ensure safety and environmental compliance on current and new procedures.
  3. Lab Technical: Prepare and analyze a variety of samples: prepare barges for Transportable Moisture Limit Tests (TML), moisture analysis, and assay; prepare and analyze RTD samples using a variety of methods and analyze samples on ICP/OES and AA; run X-Ray (WDXRF) machine; assist with preparation of core samples. Perform titrations; titrate settlement samples, x-ray calibration samples, and Research and Technical Development samples for Pb, Zn, Cu, and Fe.
  4. Supervision: Provide training, coaching and development support to direct reports to promote lab accuracy and efficiency.
  5. Maintain EHS (environmental, health and safety) compliance by holding direct reports accountable for adherence to EHS policies, procedures and best practices; evaluating employee EHS performance via field observations and document review; reporting and correcting unsafe acts or conditions, incidents, and deviations; and providing feedback to support continuous improvement in EHS performance.
  6. Perform other duties and projects as assigned.

Education and Experience:

  • College Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math or equivalent experience
  • At least 5 years of lab experience.
  • Prefer prior experience in leadership and training.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge of analytical chemical lab equipment and maintenance.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office programs, I-Series, and PeopleSoft.
  • Highly organized with attention to detail.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Strong leadership skills to coach and lead teams to support lab workflow.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Frequently required to wear personal protective equipment, including but not limited to, a respirator, hearing protection and eyewear, and work near moving, mechanical parts; occasionally exposed to extreme cold. Exposed to moderate noise levels.
  • Regularly requires standing, walking, reaching with hands/arms, and repetitive movement; frequently requires grasping and pushing; occasionally requires feeling attributes of objects, driving, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. Requires clarity of vision, precise hand-eye coordination, and the ability to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Regularly required to lift up to 5 pounds; frequently required to lift up to 50 pounds; occasionally required to lift up to 100 pounds.
