United Way of Broome County Accounting Clerk in Vestal, New York

United Way of Broome County (UWBC) is a non-profit organization that fights for the health, education, and financial stability of Broome County residents. The organization works in partnership with community organizations and members to drive change that will have positive impact on the critical needs of the community. Reporting to the Finance Director, the Accounting Clerk is responsible for, but not limited to, processing all invoices received for payment, ensuring the timely payment of all accounts accurately and efficiently, and providing support to the Finance Department.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Process invoices, check requests, petty cash requests, & credit cards for review by management Ensure all payments are processed and mailed on time and are prepared in compliance with UWBC financial policies and procedures Verify & resolve discrepancies in regards to accounts payable Maintain filing systems of all vendor & accounts payable documentation Work with the Financial Operations Specialist to maintain and update grant schedules Under the direction of the Finance Associate, data entry & payment of agency designations.
Perform day-to-day financial transactions as assigned, including but not limited to, verifying, classifying, computing, posting, & recording data Prepare simple financial reports from data entered, including the status of accounts Work with the Financial Operations Specialist to prepare & process the organizations annual 1099 filings Assist with ongoing processes to ensure timely & accurate submission of all documentation required to perform and complete the organizations annual audit. Audit journal entries prepared by other finance staff Attend meetings as assigned Serve as a representative of UWBC and display courtesy, tact, consideration, and discretion in all interactions with other members of the UWBC community and public Cross train in other areas of the Finance Department where needed Perform other duties as assigned to support the effective operation of UWBC and/or its Finance Department

QUALIFICATIONS: Preferred: Associates Degree in accounting or related field with at least two (2) years of accounting or bookkeeping experience. Accepted: A minimum of three years of progressively responsible bookkeeping/accounting experience. Experience with QuickBooks required.

SKILLS: Ability to accurately process a high volume of data entry. Sound judgment, discretion, & confidentiality. Able to understand & interpret oral instructions and/or written directions. Excellent computer skills, including advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, and Word) and QuickBooks accounting software. Outstanding verbal & written communication skills. Problem-solving skills. Ability to work as a team or independently. Self-motivated and detail-oriented. Good organizational & time management skills, as well as the ability to prioritize & meet deadlines.

HOURS: Part-time - 20 hours per week Flexibility with daily schedule, though must work with management to have it defined. Evening and weekend hours may be required for special community events and meetings.
