Amazon Open source program manager, Open Source Strategy & Marketing in Vancouver, British Columbia

AWS Open Source is seeking an experienced Program Manager to join the team. The successful candidate will be a key member of the Open Source Strategy and Marketing team, which is responsible for driving high-visibility, strategic programs that directly impact customer experience and perception. The ideal candidate will have a software development background as well as Program management experience and will own and execute complex projects and drive key operational process improvement activities. You will be comfortable in a fast-paced multi-tasked environment, with the ability to drive the program’s strategy and roadmap, collaborate with business and development teams across the company to analyze the cost/benefit of project selection, and manage all aspects of the project execution.

The most successful candidate must possess a relentless bias for action, the ability to effectively communicate at all levels, is extremely detail oriented and organized. This position will work closely with teams across the Amazon Web Services marketing. You must have the ability to quickly learn organizational structure and team objectives, and adapt to Amazon values and vision. Additionally, the ideal candidate must be able to work successfully in a team environment, building effective working relationships inside and outside of the group, while keeping abreast of general business objectives, policies, standards, procedures, and related information in order to maintain a comprehensive awareness of the organization. A high level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential information, and professionalism in dealing with senior professionals inside and outside the company is important.

Key job responsibilities

  • Proven ability to influence change at all levels as appropriate, by interacting with cross-disciplinary technical and non-technical teams, in order to design new business processes and technical solutions.

  • Proactively gather the right data from appropriate sources, probe the results, and consider other perspectives.

  • Conduct root cause analysis, refer to long-term plans and goals, prioritize key factors, and act decisively, promptly, and confidently.

  • Define functional requirements and specifications, high-level processes, and system solutions.

  • Take full responsibility for programs from design phase to implementation.

  • Implement and manage Open Source Foundations Strategy and maintain relationships with a wide range of open source software foundations and standards bodies.

  • Develop a working project plan for each new program or launch to track milestones, deliverables, deadlines, and post-mortems.

  • Liaise closely with technology teams across the world to define and drive the technical changes for new and improvement projects.

The Open Source Strategy and Marketing (OSSM - pronounced “awesome”) team includes veterans that have worked for some of the industry’s top open source companies and foundations. Based on this open source experience, we help service teams, the field, and others effectively engage with open source constituencies: project communities, media and analysts, and social media.

Our mission is to help AWS deliver on two, tightly linked objectives: 1) to significantly increase the scope and value of our open source involvement and 2) to help customers and communities learn about our involvement and understand why it matters.

AWS Sales, Marketing, and Global Services (SMGS) is responsible for driving revenue, adoption, and growth from the largest and fastest growing small- and mid-market accounts to enterprise-level customers including public sector. The AWS Global Support team interacts with leading companies and believes that world-class support is critical to customer success. AWS Support also partners with a global list of customers that are building mission-critical applications on top of AWS services.

Basic Qualifications

  • 4+ years of professional non-internship marketing experience

  • Experience using data and metrics to drive improvements

  • Experience with Excel or Tableau (data manipulation, macros, charts and pivot tables)

  • Experience building, executing and scaling cross-functional programs or marketing campaigns from concept to completion

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using customer research, hard data and metrics to back up assumptions, generate forecasts, and assess the efficacy of marketing programs

  • Experience managing budgets

The base salary for this position ranges from $68,400/year up to $114,300/year. Salary is based on a number of factors and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Dependent on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
