    Position Summary:

    Reporting directly to the Regional Director of Pharmacy, the Pharmacy Operations Manager ensures delivery of pharmacy services in an efficient manner, with an emphasis on safety and cost effectiveness. The Pharmacy Operations Manager oversees operations of the inpatient pharmacies, including drug distribution and sterile product preparation, and staff and workflow coordination with the Lead(s), Regional Clinical Pharmacy Manager and ancillary services. The Pharmacy Operations Manager oversees staff recruiting, development, and productivity as well as direct personnel management on the Methodist campus. Collaboratively coordinates the development, implementation, and maintenance of medication management policies. The individual will help to ensure integrity of information systems and drug procurement. Ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation requirements including but not limited to TJC, CMS, HRSA 340B, CDC, USP, and State and Federal pharmacy law.

    EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor Degree, Pharmacy or

  • Doctorate Degree, Pharmacy

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS

  • Registered Pharmacist License and

  • Valid drivers license when driving any vehicle for work-related reasons upon hire

    EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • One year of hospital pharmacy experience

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Use of usual and customary equipment used to perform essential functions of the position.

    SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE

  • Exceptional database and spreadsheet knowledge

  • Proficient in math, pharmacy calculations and use of excel formulas.

  • Proficient with MS Office (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Access, Visio)

  • Proficient in electronic medical records, pharmacy systems, and internet navigation.

  • Must interact well with people, and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Current knowledge of state, federal, and professional industry standards pertaining to pharmaceutical healthcare

  • Current knowledge of state, federal, and professional industry standards pertaining to 340B program requirements desired.

  • Experience with analyzing and reporting data

  • Identify issues, trends, or exceptions to drive improvement of results and find solutions

  • Oversees the Lead Pharmacists and Lead Technicians

  • Creates and maintains workgroups and internal pharmacy committees to accomplish specific tasks

  • Works collaboratively with members of the 340B Compliance Committee

  • Develops, plans, organizing, implementation, and integration efforts related to the 340B program.

  • Oversees the distribution of medications throughout the Methodist campus including hospital-based clinics

  • Ensures accurate entry of med orders into the HIS system

  • Furnish hospital personnel with a correct electronic medication administration record.

  • Gives oversight to the dispensing of medications per policy and procedure in a timely manner.

  • All reference material available to staff will be periodically reviewed

  • Reviews material for accuracy and appropriateness of all patient types Pharmacy reviews orders for.

  • Oversight of pharmacists accurately checking ADS new fills, refills, unit dose medications, patient specific medications and IV preparations as to whether they were accurately picked, prepared, and labeled correctly.

  • Updates current services provided by pharmacy to assure high standards of pharmacy practice across Peoria campuses.

  • Works in collaboration with the Regional Clinical Pharmacy Manager

  • Has an understanding of clinical pharmacy services.

  • Participates in in-service programs relating to new procedures, policies, equipment, and treatments.

  • Participates in projects in the department and throughout the organization as the need arises or problems develop.

  • Works closely with other department managers and supervisors

  • Assess and implement operational improvements related to medication distribution and administration

  • Works in a cost effective and efficient manner.

  • Effectively manages through drug shortages and sustainability initiatives in a cost effective manner

  • Maintains optimal patient care.

  • Works to stay within FTE/operational expense budgets as outlined by the Regional Director of Pharmacy Services.

  • Assist with identifying capital needs for the Methodist campus.

  • Working collaboratively with the Pharmacy Buyer and 340B Technician

  • Evaluate oversight of the 340B program

  • Confirm accumulation, reduction, and reconciliation of 340B inventory are occurring as expected

  • Reports any variance or areas of concern to the Regional Director of Pharmacy and the 340B Compliance Committee.

  • Evaluates and assures all staff under the incumbent's direction perform quality services

  • Monitors the workflow and makes adjustments as needed

  • Participates in the Quality Improvement process, including the development of operational and productivity metrics

  • Monitors competencies of staff

  • Acts as a preceptor for new staff and pharmacy students or assigns as appropriate.

  • Develops skills in existing staff.

  • Responsible for evaluation of staff by establishing department and individual performance improvement goals

  • Hires, discharges, evaluates, disciplines staff within defined organizational parameters
