    Position Summary:

    The RN Educator coordinates the planning, development, and implementation of education for the Unit. Will provide bedside education to the unit nurse, ensuring competency through both monthly skill validation and frequent monitoring of all staff. Will serve as the education and quality resource for all nursing practice issues and as the orientation resource for all new employees in the unit. Will oversee policy, procedure and standard development and revision through evidence based practice changes. Additionally, will perform routine audits to ensure education needs are being addressed for staff.

    Qualifications:

    Education Requirements BSN EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS Two (2) Years Healthcare and endorsement by the Nurse Manager SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE Must be flexible to meet educational needs of night shift and weekend shift employees. Demonstrates clinical competencies in providing direct patient care and patient and family education as well as assisting the provider in the delivery of patient care. Demonstrates leadership and organizational skills with the ability to communicat effectively and collaboratively with others.

    Essential Functions:

  • Collaborate with supervisors, managers, nurse practitioners and physicians to address issues related to nursing practice and documentation trends. Facilitate practice and documentation changes when needed.

  • Develop, maintain, and monitor staff competencies and keep records for annual review. Report any non-compliance of staff competencies to manager at the beginning of each month.

  • Plan and coordinate unit educational presentations as needed. Provide opportunities for less experienced staff to grow and develop their unit specific skills. Develop and coordinate advanced nursing educational opportunities.

  • Participate in the unit chart review meeting, quality meeting and UPC.

  • Collect data on patient outcomes in the unit.

  • Review overall compliance by staff with regulatory agencies related to patient safety including DNV, OSHA, CMS, and IDPH.

  • Utilize information technology to obtain evidence-based practices and the latest research to provide current best practice information to care providers on the unit.

  • Perform educational evaluation for both unit nursing staff and applicable transport staff.

  • Develop and coordinate orientation for various groups, such as, new RNs and HCTs, travel RN staff, float staff, and volunteers.

  • Collaborate with other departments to develop consistent education and orientation programs (nursery, float, pediatrics, etc.).

  • Be available for consultation to additional special interest committees.

  • Recruit, prepare, and coordinate unit RN staff for preceptor positions.

  • Prepare and coordinate unit RN staff for UNL role.

  • Serve as a resource for professional growth with RNs interested in the professional advancement ladder.

  • Ensure that the unit policy/procedure/standards reflect EBP and are practiced consistently

  • Ensure all unit employee competencies and licensure requirements are current

  • Identify unit educational needs and implement appropriate improvement measures to meet needs

  • Coach and mentor unit employees to further growth and development

  • Assist with unit audits to identify unit strengths and weaknesses

  • Collaborate across multidisciplinary settings and with hospital-wide committees to promote unit and hospital-wide improvement

  • Complete point of care testing for all unit employees

  • Assist with new employee onboarding and training
