JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The department of Plant Science in the college of Agricultural Sciences at Penn State (https://psu.edu) is hiring a Research Technologist to assist with the Forage Crop and Weed Science extension and research programs. Duties will include experimental plot layout, data collection, plot maintenance, soil and plant sample collection and processing, and field operations (tillage, planting, spraying, grain harvest). Additional duties may include data collection, managing data and data analysis, technical report writing for data summary, and management of budgets.

The candidate will be involved in a wide range of field experiments, including 1) diversified forage crop management in annual and perennial crop production; 2) organic field crop and weed management; and 3) integrated crop and weed management using cover crops. This is a limited term position funded for one year from date of hire with potential for annual renewal.

Qualifications: B.S. (or M.S.) degree in agronomy, crop science, weed science, agroecology, soil science and three or more years of relevant experience in agricultural plant science research o r an equivalent combination of education and experience . The candidate should be able to 1) operate tractors and other types of farm equipment, 2) perform various field and laboratory operations, 3) use Microsoft Office software to manage, summarize research data, and 4) work cooperatively with diverse teams that include graduate students, professional staff and faculty. We are seeking a self-motivated individual willing to work independently.

This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks. Required to obtain a certified pesticide applicator license within 60 days of hire.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:

$42,100.00 - $61,000.00
