JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The One Health Microbiome Center at The Pennsylvania State University’s Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences is one the largest and most active units in the field with 550 members spanning 42 departments (microbiome.psu.edu). The Center’s mission is to optimize, advance, and disseminate microbiome knowledge and applications for positive outcomes within and across the domains of human, agricultural, and ecosystem health.
The Center fosters long-term working relationships within and beyond Penn State while simultaneously providing infrastructure and resources to support transformative, interdisciplinary microbiome research and education. As a growing and highly active organization, the Center is keen to continue to expand its program portfolio and develop new partnerships with academia, industry, private foundations, and donors . The One Health Microbiome Center is part of the Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences that encompasses one home for the life sciences spanning 33 research institutes and centers, 11 core instrumentation facilities, and 7 advanced graduate programs. The faculty in the Center carry out diverse research projects in human, environmental, and agricultural ecosystems from simple endosymbionts to complex communities, and it often collaborates with other members and centers across the campus. Areas of expertise span a broad spectrum, from molecules and cells to tissues and organisms to populations and ecosystems. Award-winning faculty and graduate students teach and carry out research in the field, wet lab, and dry lab spanning crop production, disease susceptibility, microbial therapies, computational tools, and more.
About the Position: The Center seeks a highly motivated, organized, and creative Research Project Manager who will work with leadership and a large, diverse team of faculty, scientists, trainees, and administrators in developing and executing the Center’s education, research, and business operations, with emphasis on complex, transformative, and large-scale projects related to the microbiome sciences.
This is a full-time position to commence in Spring 2025. Reporting directly to the One Health Microbiome Center Director, the candidate will manage scientific projects, grants, and meetings, write proposal applications and news releases in collaboration with faculty members, coordinate communications and socials, manage financials and general marketing, and oversee education/outreach activities.

Responsibilities: Following are the key responsibilties:
Manage scientific programs including complex training grants for graduate students, pilot grant programs, research fellowships, training workshops, symposia and seminar series, and other networking events
Lead the writing and preparation of Center-related reports, publications, and grant applications in collaboration with the Center leadership
Manage Center-related grant and operational budgets in collaboration with the Huck Institutes
Oversee communication of Center outcomes to the public via website, social media, emails, and other promotional materials
Oversee outreach activities, networking events, symposia, education, and art of Center-related projects
Other duties as assigned
Qualifications: This position will be filled at an Intermediate Professional or an Advanced Professional level. Following are the qualifications:
A minimum of a Master’s degree or a PhD from an accredited institution, or equivalent experience in natural sciences, physical sciences, engineering, or a microbiome-related field
A minimum of 1+ years of experience for the Intermediate Professional level and 3+ years for Advanced Professional level.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills, demonstrated ability for communicating effectively with various stakeholders is necessary
Excellent time-management, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills is necessary
Ability to exercise discretion, confidentiality, sound judgement, and attention to detail is necessary
Self-motivated and able to work independently on multiple projects concurrently is necessary
Consistent demonstration of initiative, able to rapidly adapt and respond to changes in environment and priorities is necessary
Professional experience in running structured, multi-disciplinary programs and/or in research administration is preferred
Knowledge of standard software packages is preferred

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:
$61,800.00 - $102,300.00
