JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

Student Disability Resources (SDR) is looking for a part-time Educational Assistant for a visually impaired student taking an Engineering Design course during the Fall 2024 Semester. The course focuses on hands-on team projects using a range of design tools and techniques. The individual hired for this role will assist the student with navigating SolidWorks design software and creating physical prototypes using mixed media.

Job DutiesTechnology

  • Describing the visual appearance of software to the student.

  • Describing possible actions the student can take based on current factors or data.

  • Navigating through and completing tasks within software at the student's direction.

  • Reading text aloud that the student cannot access with technology.

Class Activities

  • Assisting with building physical prototypes using mixed media (e.g., wood, cardboard, etc.).

Requirements and Qualifications

  • Time commitment:

  • Attend scheduled class sessions in-person, on the Penn State University Park Campus, at the following time:

  • Class: Monday, Wednesday, Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 9:55 a.m.

  • Able to schedule time outside of class to work on course assignments.

  • Able to work an estimated 10 to 20 per week.

  • Experience with SolidWorks design software is strongly preferred but not required.

  • Current or previous engineering studies are preferred but not required.

  • Previous experience working with individuals who are blind is preferred but not required.

  • Former Engineering Design (EDSGN) students are encouraged to apply.

  • Current and former EDSGN TAs are encouraged to apply.

  • Job-related training will be provided.

  • The individual hired for this role is not responsible for individually teaching course material.
