JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Chemistry Department invites qualified applicants for the position of Assistant Instrumentation Director. Primary responsibilities will include the supervision of the Organic Chemistry Instrument Room, maintenance of instrumentation used across the undergraduate chemistry program, aid in the development of new experiments to utilize instrumentation, the writing of proposals to obtain new instrumentation, training and supervision of instrument room teaching assistants, and assisting students with usage of the instruments.

Qualified candidates will have extensive knowledge of NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) Spectroscopy, IR (Infrared) Spectroscopy, UV/Vis (Ultraviolet/Visible) Spectroscopy, GC (Gas Chromatography), and GC-MS (Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry). As assistant director, the qualified applicant will aid and advise the Instrumentation Director in the development and implementation of the curriculum as well as the direction of the organic chemistry instrument room.

Minimal qualifications include a bachelor's in Chemistry or a closely related field with several years of experience in the use and maintenance of instrumentation. Preference will be given to applicants with knowledge of additional instrumentation techniques, including, but not limited to, HPLC (High Performance Liquid Chromatography), fluorimetry, polarimetry. This position will begin in the fall semester of 2022.
