JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The Africana Research Center (https://arc.la.psu.edu/) in the College of the Liberal Arts (https://la.psu.edu/) is seeking an Administrative Assistant .
The Administrative Assistant will work closely with the Center's Director and the Willard Support Group (another administrative team) to manage the overall day-to-day operations of the Center.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Plan and coordinate all Center events, such as conferences, talks, and workshops
Plan and coordinate events for postdoctoral fellows and speakers affiliated with the Center
Coordinate schedules and activities with other relevant College departments and Centers
Prepare/process various financial forms and reconciliation of purchasing card charges
Monitor and maintain the Center Director’s calendar and conference room schedule
Compose, edit, and proof correspondence; handle all incoming calls to the Center
Make travel arrangements for the Center’s Director and others in the Center
Assist in creating and coordinating promotional materials for the Center; maintain Center’s website and social media accounts
Create and maintain the Center’s files, reports, and databases
Create and monitor Center and research grant budgets
Prepare the annual Center report with the Director, documenting activities, publications, and budget
Schedule and document regular meetings with the Center’s Advisory Board
Crosstrain and provide support to the Willard Support Group (which supports African Studies, African American Studies, and Women’s, Gender, & Sexuality Studies) on departmental and Center activities and schedules

Education and Experience: T his position will be filled at the level of Support or Intermediate Support, depending on the final applicant’s experience and education. The Support level requires a minimum of a High School Diploma/GED or Vocational Training/Degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Additional education and/or experience are required for higher-level positions.
Additional Qualifications:
Experience with Microsoft 365
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Detailed- and customer service-oriented
Ability to exercise discretion and judgment while managing confidential materials
Excellent organization skills with the ability to manage and prioritize tasks
Demonstrated ability to work independently
It is also preferred that candidates have experience with SIMBA (Penn State’s System for Integrated Management, Budgeting, and Accounting System).

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:
$34,800.00 - $55,500.00
