M. C. Dean Sprinkler Technician 2 in Tysons, Virginia

Overview

Sprinkler Technician 2 is responsible for conducting in-depth evaluations of sprinkler systems and their components, complex testing procedures, and proactive maintenance and repairs to ensure the optimal performance and compliance of sprinkler systems.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and conduct detailed inspection and testing of various sprinkler systems, including fire pumps, wet systems, dry systems, tamper switches, water-flow devices, hydrants and backflows.

  • Assist with inspections and testing of fire alarm, special hazard systems, kitchen hoods and preaction systems.

  • Properly complete testing reports with noted test results and corresponding deficiencies in timely manner

  • Performs routine maintenance and inspects fire extinguisher equipment.

  • Utilize advanced troubleshooting techniques to diagnose and repair intricate problems in sprinkler systems.

  • Recharge fire extinguishers and replace components that have exceeded their service life.

  • Document all service activities, including inspections, testing results, and repairs, according to company procedures.

  • Maintain meticulous records of inspections, tests, maintenance activities, and any identified issues.

  • Assist experienced technicians in troubleshooting and resolving system malfunctions or deficiencies.

  • Determine materials needed for simple repairs and order them.

  • Ensure all work is conducted in strict compliance with local, state, and national fire safety codes and regulations.

  • Perform fire years internal sprinkler inspectiona and testing

  • Adhere to safety protocols, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), to maintain a safe working environment.

  • Stay updated on industry developments and changes in safety codes and standards.

  • Interact professionally with clients, addressing their inquiries and concerns.

  • Deliver excellent customer service and maintain positive client relationships.

  • Communicate system performance and deficiencies to customers and to account managers for accurate and efficient quoting of recommended repairs.

  • Provide guidance and training to clients on the proper use and maintenance of fire alarm systems.

  • Respond promptly to service calls and emergency situations to resolve issues and ensure the continuous operation of fire alarm systems.

  • Provide exceptional customer service by communicating effectively with clients, addressing their concerns, and maintaining positive relationships.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with building owners, building managers, and other customer representatives;

  • Maintain truck inventory

  • Be on rotation to respond to afterhours service calls as scheduled by supervisor;

  • Pursue and maintain industry certifications, as well as grow technical and customer service skills with active support from MCDean.

  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams, work orders, schematics, blueprints, and specifications.

  • Address client inquiries, concerns, and service requests promptly and professionally.

  • Provide technical support to junior technicians and collaborate with team members to deliver high-quality service to clients.

  • Determine materials needed for complex repairs and order them.

  • Respond promptly to service calls, emergencies, and system failures to address issues and restore system functionality.

  • Stay updated on industry advancements, regulations, and best practices to ensure compliance and optimize system performance.

  • Uphold safety protocols, company policies, and customer service standards to deliver exceptional service and support.

  • Perform complete site surveys for potential preventive maintenance inspections and sprinkler system changes/modifications, prepare take off and labor estimation for completion work

  • Perform pre-testing and final acceptance testing with Fire Marshal for assigned projects;

  • Develop and maintain relationships with building owners, building managers, and other customer representatives;

  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams, work orders, schematics, blueprints, and specifications.

  • Maintain truck inventory;

  • Pursue and maintain industry certifications, as well as grow technical and customer service skills with active support from MCDean.

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable codes and standards.

  • Perform online research, installation manuals, manufacture manuals to determine materials requirements and installation procedures;

Qualifications

Education:

  • High School Diploma (required)

  • 5 years of relevant experience or 2 years technology degree and 3 years of relevant experience

Certifications:

  • NICET II in Inspection and Testing of Water-Based Systems or

  • Pass NICET II in Inspection and Testing of Water-Based Systemsexam within 90 days of employment

  • State Backflow Certification or obtain within 6 months of employment

  • Fire Pump Test Certification or obtain within 1 year of employment

Requirements:

  • Ability to obtain US clearance.

  • Above average level of attention to detail and professional work ethic.

  • Commitment to excellence and a high quality of work.

  • Knowledge of NFPA 25, NFPA 13, NEC, Fire Sprinkler System Theory and OSHA Requirements

  • Ability to function in a controlled, effective manner under stress.

  • Strong desire to continuously increase your skill set and take on more responsibility.

  • Above average communication skills with customers, other field personnel, office staff and sub-contractors

Abilities:

  • Lift at least 100 pounds at one time and 60 pounds for an extended period.

  • Relocate a 12-foot stepladder without assistance.

  • Work at various heights up to 60 feet and can climb and maintain balance on scaffolds, aerial lifts, catwalks, and all types of ladders.

  • Walk, climb, lift, squat, crawl, kneel, push, pull and reach overhead on a routine and repetitive basis.

  • Possess good vision (may be corrected vision), the ability to see in color, and the ability to hear and communicate in English.

  • May use a standard ladder without exceeding the weight limit while carrying tools.

  • Tell when something is wrong or is likely to go wrong. It does not involve solving the problem, only recognizing there is a problem.

  • Apply general rules to specific problems to produce answers that make sense.

  • Combine pieces of information to form general rules or conclusions (including finding a relationship among seemingly unrelated events).
