Bon Homme School District 4-2 One Act Play Advisor in Tyndall, South Dakota
Responsible to: Superintendent/Secondary Principal in consultation with the Athletic Director
Position Description The drama director shall assume full responsibility for preparing and presenting at least one play each year and participating in the SDHSAA one-act play contest. The drama director should occasionally plan and produce a musical with the cooperation of the vocal/music director and/or band director.
Duties
- Select appropriate productions for presentation
- Hold tryouts; provide students with a written outline of rehearsals, datelines for lines memorized, songs, dances, set construction, costumes, programs, tickets, and ticket sales (should be worked out before final casting)
- Select the cast; select students for roles who have time to devote to the task
- Prepare actors and actresses for their roles
- Responsible for cast makeup
- Work with and supervise activities of ticket takers and ushers
- Responsible for promotion activities of productions and contests
- Responsible for financial matters associated with productions and contests
- Return any set properties to owners following productions and contests
- Anticipate conflicts with other activities and work out in advance of scheduling
- Maintain highly organized practices with a written plan for each rehearsal; students should be dismissed from the building at or before 10:00 p.m.
- Make students aware of rules of conduct for school contests and drama department
- Work with activity director in scheduling productions and contests
- Supervise storage and maintenance of props and costumes
- Keep unauthorized personnel out of building during rehearsal and practice times
